Any updates for a short shift kit for the G56 yet, or is it not going to happen?

I was told by a friend it may not happen due to the complexity of the G56 shift mechanism.

I have not heard any news on BD making a short shift kit for the G56...

Turbo1Ton - Yep, I will be calling the machine shop tomorrow to see if I can pick up my order...

Hey Tomey I was the guy that hollered & honked the air @ ya from the Speedway Sunday morning. One of my buddies was having valves stem probs! :-laf

Shifter's working great man! Where did you get the spacers at I think I may need one or two more thin ones to get the shifter perfectly straight?.

I saw the name on the window of the truck and i was like yeah, I know that name!

The spacers are from Mcmaster-carr. . But I should have sent enough to make it all the way around and any degree in between... anyway, I have more. .

Man that shifter is AWESOME. How do I get one? Can I be a late beta tester? :-laf Though seriously Tommygun the second you have one for sale count me in!!!!! I'll by one that second!

me too - but no so patienyly :-{}

I called the machine shop and they because of the holiday it would be the end of next week (read -"we have a large company that we put ahead of you, sorry little-fry"

looks like July 7th...

Unfortunately I know how that goes. Where I used to work we used a fairly small machine shop for a lot of our parts. Well, it was just him doing the machining and occasionally he would hire in someone part time to help him out. Well he would get slammed with orders and unfortunately for us, he would just have to go to a "whoever screams the loudest gets their stuff first" scheduling.

I don't agree with it and I would like to think that if I had my own business it wouldn't happen, but it might. I don't know how large this place is but if they are fairly small, I'd cut them a little slack. Growing pains are hard to handle from both sides. They don't like having to tell you that you are being pushed out any more than you like hearing it. At least I hope not!

Well, looks like we'll just have to go out and have a few beverages this weekend and enjoy the holiday and hope that we have something to look forward to next Friday! :D

Update - Machine shop said to call them tomorrow...

AND I did find that this kit will not fit some trucks with the already bent shifter. . see pic. - The lower shaft is not threaded, some work will be needed from me to make the SRT Hurst shifter work with this one:

Update:

Machine shop quoted June 27th for job completion

I will be good to go after that pending they do the job correctly

Looks like I spoke to soon... I picked up a batch of adapters today - and pluncked down a little over $2500 for job

Well, well ,well... guess what? They friggin drilled the holes to far apart!!!

Mind you I left MY prototype that I took OFF MY TRUCK in thier parking lot. Did they measure twice and cut once?????? heck no

I'm so mad I am literlly hot, I mean it, like hot to the touch. It is so much to ask for properly made product...

Take a peak at the picks for yourself

PS - BTW this is a large scale shop - http://www.southtownemachining.com

I expected better... .

Dang Tomey... . I hate to hear about that man. :{ Seems like you haven't had to much good luck with all of this ordeal.

I had been meaning to post... ... has anyone had any probs with keep them shifter & shift ball tight? Mine seems to loosen up ever few days/week or so.

Reject the parts, Tomey.

You should be allowed a final inspection and it didn't pass. How far out are they? +1/8"?

I already sent them an email and expressed my thoughts :-{} with pictures.

I told them I would be by at noon to drop them off and have a talk with the owner about quality... .

And I would say 1/8 or just a little less.

+/- 1/8 on a simple part like that is just silly.

Their website says they are ISO certified. I am not familiar with ISO, but do work with ASME (I believe they are similar) and you will want to talk to the Quality manager/owner about potentially the following (they may or may not apply):

-Final inspection report on your part(s) – who checked it and said yep, ok. This should be documented. If it is not, make sure they will document it when you get your fixed parts.

-NCR (Non-conformance report) on your items. Might not be a bad idea to ask to see their Non-conformance log – this will show what other problems their QA department etc has uncovered.

-Corrective Action

I. E. - what did they do wrong, how they documented their screw up and what they are going to do to keep from making the same mistake in the future? For as much as they claim to be quality and customer service make sure they deliver that to you. Stay cool and let them do a lot of the talking.

One thing though, whenever you make chips, cut, etc. mistakes can happen. My machine shop has screwed up an angle cut on two different parts two different times (same angle though).

I hope this turns out ok! Keep us posted...

Geez, that sucks! Hopefully they will make right on it.

If they had the prototype one in their posession there is no excuse for it. Someone is just too lazy to check. Just a suggestion, you might leave one of the dampers with them to use as a go-no go gauge.

ISO certification means that there should be a paper trail. It is a lot more involved than that but that is the general idea. GiesJ's suggestions are very good. At the minimum I would ask them what kind of inspection did they perform on your parts.

Good luck tomorrow.

I dropped them off today and they found the holes to be 1/32nd too small (something like that)

They assured me they will be done tomorrow drilling them out the proper size per the prototype... .

We shall see

Got Smoke?

My shifter hasn't loosened up at all since I installed it.

Tommy

When someone gets into my truck, the shifter is the first thing they comment on :D . I drove a truck with the stock shifter, and it felt horrible!

Be patient folks, it will be worth the wait!
