Well I've been rowing with the shifter for 2. 5 weeks or 1,000 miles, and I really like it. It was kinda weird at first being lower and closer, but I got used to it real quick. I also like that the first thing people say when they hop in my truck is "wow this has a Hurst shifter?" But then they say "cool how do you like your XM?" (Attitude in ashtray) :-laf... The shifter brings out a little bit more transmission noise, but not bad. I'd say Tommy gets two thumbs way up! This thing feels great and I'd hate to go back to the boring, stock shifter, that is now too far away and has a stink'n plastic knob! Place your orders boys and girls, this is one of those "must have's!" Good work Tommy and thanks!

ABout 2 weeks... As long dodge will sell me the shifters we will be good to go. But as I suspected, there may be shortages periodicly in the year. Like now, I went buy like 10 more for my pile, and there are none in the country available...

What are the opinions of using the BD short shift kit along with this shifter? Is it worth the extra money? I think I have all but convinced myself to get them both but just wanted some more opinions.

well, i already have a short shifter, but want the stock a little closer to me. i could bend up my stock one, but the hurst stock looks nicer

"Jcleary" was one of the testers and he has the BD kit...

Maybe he will pipe-up and let us know if the kits work well togther...

The SRT shifter works great with the BD short shift the shorter throw an the shifter being closer is the perfect combo for me. I already had the short shift so not sure how the SRT would be alone but I would recommend both. Been using both for over a week now an would hate to go back to stock.

I agree. It's great with the BD kit. I think the dampener being gone helps the shift feel quite a bit.

Beta unit arrived today. Let me first remind everyone that yes I have a 97 model truck, but I install the top cover off of a 2001 NV4500 when I installed my SBC DD. Initial installation went off without a hitch... . my shifter boot was already loose but 2nd rubber boot bolted down.



Took approx. 3 tries to get the right amount of shims to put the shifter where I wanted it, and clear the Watt/SWR meter strapped to the top of my CB in a Wunder Mount.



Looks great, feels great although I need a small washer or two to align the shift knob correctly its at 1 o'clock bottomed out.



The only problem is that even fully bottomed out on the shifter stud the adapter is about an inch too long with my old 97 & later style boot.



Further testing will still need to be done as I only installed the shifter tonight, without any driving time on it yet.



I can honestly say this Tomey has knocked this one outta the park! Awesome product Tomey... . been thinking adapting a new boot anyways since the old shifter arm was too skinny to fill up the hole in the OE boot.

And as for the ball, the collar can be loosened and then rotate is counter-clockwise, that moves it up the threads, thus making ball not rotate as far, and then you can make it perfect without shims

Matter 'O Fact I'm gonna go see a buddy of mine tomorrow that does a lot of custom stuff. He's one of those "Truck'N" types! :-laf



DOH! Didn't even realize that that was a collar..... thought it was part of the shifter itself. I will go back out and fix that right now. Thanks Tomey!

Quick update:



Still waiting for welded adapters to be done, 50 unit run...



AND I tried the viper shifter knob below by using a thread adapter, Although it looked cool, I took it back off before the day was over because it is WAY to small to feel good when shifting. And it is pretty slick, hard to grip. So the SRT-10 is back on...



I will post some installed pics later tonight... Anyway, back to work!

Update for 2nd Gen's:



Been driving on Tomey's setup now for over a week and its GREAT! Only clash so far was at the pull the other night the shift lever contacts the 4wd knob when in 4Low... . kept having to pull 4WD lever over to get into 2nd gear to move the truck around. That in its self is not a horrible thing, cause how much are you in 4WD low anyways?



Still have yet to talk to my customizing buddy. I definately don't want to cut the adapter, but I wonder how much trouble/$$ it would be to get the boot modified by an apolstry(sp?) shop? It leaves about a 1" gap between the floor and my shifter boot if I stretch it as far as it will go. I will get something figured out between now & IRP and will post pics when I do. I imagine this shifter would fit fine under a 98+ shifter boot since its designed for the additional height of the top cover on the transmission.

Any 3rd genners want to check the t-case lever in all positions and see if it hits? Just curious, not like that will stop me from getting one!



BTW, I parked next to an SRT-10 last night and sat there staring and drooling on his window!

Machine shop quoted June 27th for job completion



I will be good to go after that pending they do the job correctly
