Hellwig rear sway bar for 2004.5 2500 CTD

A unique 5er hitch

Got off at Barstow going to vegas.

HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!

I'll get a pot of coffee going for this one!!!!. With the numbers I'm looking at you maxed out on GVWR or close to it just setting the pin on the hitch, thats cool if you can drive the truck without anybody sitting in it. You'll want the dually IMHO, I would keep the 6er though.

Now if you want a smaller truck, Nissian makes one. Toyota does too. But if you need to tow a trailer, get one to do just that. The new doolies have the short bed. Thats all you can get. with the four door.

Good luck, but I think you are going t have a have a hard time finding what you want.

Les I think you have missed my point. If you will read my post a little closer you will notice that I needed a more compact truck. The QCSB will out maneuver and turn shorter and go thru a smaller hole in the wall. There is nothing small about a doolie. I need a smaller truck.

Yep, I missed it! Size matters... or so they say :)

Looks to me that you are caught between a rock...

2500 and towing

My truck loaded with mom & me Penny & Ginger (furry things) full of fuel loaded with 5er (loaded) weighs 18,660#.

"Loaded"

My truck steering axle weighs 4720# factory gvw is 5200#

My truck rear axle weighs 5380# factory gvw is 6000#

My total rig falls within factory gross towing capacity. My 5er adds 100#s to my front axle and 2100#s to my rear axle. Even if I towed a 5er that loaded my rear axle with 3000#s I would still not exceed my tire capacity.

My tires are rated at 6400# per axle. All of my numbers add up to a safe vehicle. I have a safety margin of right at 1000#s on the rear axle. The 2500 has exactly the same front and rear axle as a 3500 doolie.

My truck has a turning radius of 45. 0 feet versus 50. 6 feet for a doolie.

My truck is roughly 62" wide vs. 68. 2" for the doolie.

Wheelbase for my truck is nearly 20" shorter than a doolie.

Yet the motor/transmission/gears, etc. is just the same in both trucks.

I simply stated I wanted a smaller truck and that is what I drive. :-laf

Sorry, you are wrong. You absolutely can NOT get a dually with a shortbed.

doolie shortbed

Ford is the only truck I have seen that had a doolie shortbed.

I don't think you can get a dullie in a long bed regular cab either. QC long box only. I could be wrong on this, but I think that's what I heard.

single or doolie

There is one other maybe insignificant point. If you use your truck for other things like park you 5er and travel to the beach and sandy soil, you have a larger choice of tires to use with a single rear wheel truck. I have 10. 5" of rubber all the way around. That helps greatly when you get into soft soil. A doolie has only a few choices. You can't put 10 or 11 inches of higher flotation under that heavy CTD. You might have 7 inches of rubber at the most. I have seen many trucks on the beach with the front end out of sight. A good thing about America is that you get to drive the truck of your choice.

Regular cab, 8 foot bed, dually is still an option listed on Dodge.com

How do the DRW perform off road compared to the SRW? In the mud and snow?

If you're planning on driving on mud/snow/ice with an unloaded DRW you'll definitely want 4WD since the extra "tire patch" in the rear cuts your rear traction in half.

That said, one advantage to the 4WD DRW is that the rear wheels don't sink in as far...

If you want a hard working stable truck, get the DRW. If you want a sport truck, get a Toyota, it will run circles around your SRW. By the way, when I get in soft stuff like snow or mud or sand, I air down to about 10 psi and my rear tires become one, when I get out, just air back up. You guys are so full of hot air I'm gett'n dizzy. Here's one you might not know, The next time you are in freezing rain or snow, coat your windshield with Rain-X. Snow and ice will not stick. :) JMTCW.

I have a DRW 1ton 4x4. Clearance IS a consideration but your hitch and your pin-box will both provide adjustments required.

I wish now I had ordered a 6 speed, but that was not available with the other options I had specified. A manual is a bit more conducive to an exhaust brake, something you will REALLY need. I put a PAC-brake on this week and it required a bit of circumvention to the ECU to get it to work. Next to do is an ATS commander to control the torq converter. :)
