If power is what your after for a hundred bucks difference it seems like a no brainer to go for the III's. My question is how much smoke do the stage III injectors put out? I don't want to be too obnoxious.

You will have to call DD probably or hope that someone with the "newer" version of the DD III's posts because if I recall correctly they just redid both the Stage II's and III's for less smoke. Hopefully someone can give you a better answer then I can.

Jim,

I just installed the DDIIIs yesterday. I ordered them on 5/22. The part # is ISB0003M, but I do not know if these are the revised injectors or not.

Note: I've been using a VA since MAR, and have removed it. There was some smoke with the VA when under throttle without boost.

Impressions: The engine runs better overall. Quiet and smooth compared to the VA; all the way through the RPM range. SMOKE: I can drive the truck without producing any smoke noticeable in the side rear mirror - and I was checking. With my manual transmission, this requires a little patience to allow boost to climb, or shifting without ever dropping below 1500 rpm. If you push hard on the pedal without any boost - look out, here comes a cloud. More so than the VA. I only have experience with those two mods.

Andy

I think I'm going to go with the stage II's and the Power edge. Anyone else have an opinion on this setup.

Hey jims, I thought it was a no brainer to go for the DD Stage 3s? What's up with your choice of going with the Stage 2s? LOL #ad

John,
I said it "seems" like a no brainer. Besides the wife got involved and said absolutely no smoke. So I figure no smoke with stage II's and when I want to kick it in the a&* I can flip the switch on the power edge.

jims:

I'm running Stage IIs w/ the VA and the Original Powermax. I usually run the Powermax turned "off," thereby using only it's boost module function. My Stage II's smoke like crazy if your not careful about how you drive it. And, as Andy R said above, you have make each shift higher in the RPMs so that your next gear starts at least at 1500+ RPM. The VA makes it worse, but the low-end grunt is way cool. My wife doesn't understand this new style of driving, so she lugs the truck, bogs the throttle and wonders why she can't see behind her! She LOVES the power, however. She says, "I love to drive your truck, it's so zippy!" ... ... Zippy, huh? Not exactly how I would describe it. #ad
Bottom line, even the Stage IIs smoke too much for some people, but I love 'em. You will too.

If smoke is a problem, go with the ISB003A. I have these in my truck, Mike Crossley has them too. I have installed several sets of these injectors and they are totally smoke friendly. You have to mash it from a stop to cause smoke. Normal driving will not produce smoke. These are good for about 80 horsepower where the "M" injectors will produce a tad over 100 horsepower.

give me SMOKE or give me a ford ... #ad

but seriously , i like the smoke , not to much mind you but i like to give the clowns that tailgate me a good puff at highway speeds , which i can't do withthe 275 and Va , so i'll be getting 3A's and a Power Edge .

I have the new style DDIII's. As long as you let the boost come up to aaround 10 psi before you pour the coal to it, there is very little smoke. If you go balls to the wall from an idle yeh they will smoke. Not accusing anyone here, but I have heard some real horror stories of injector problems (smoke, using a hammer to seat them, not removing the copper washer (so now there is 2 washers on an injector), and not pulling out the supply tubes before seating the injectors)). Not all problems are the fault of the manufacturer. Some people are their own worst enemies, and as a result can do a grave dis-service to a good vendor. Even though I am completely capable of installing my own injectors, I had the vendor do it. That way if there was any problem (and there wasn't), it will not be because I did a ****ty job on the install. Mine doesn't smoke unless I want it to.

Ross, which DD Stage 2s do you have installed (2As or 2Ms)?

Jims, I couldn't resist! I saw where you said "seems like". #ad

Well I went ahead and ordered the 2m's. After talking with DD they said If I let the boost come up before I punched it I would see no smoke. However 3's would definately smoke more than 2's. I was talked out of the a's because I went with stealth injectors and it would not look good with automatic part numbers in a manual truck.

Since you are talking about rough idle I will throw my two cents in. I have DDSIII and since the install have put 2500mi on the truck. When it is cold it idles fine but after it warms up it idles rough but as another person said you can not see it on the tach. Otherwise it runs great and yes it will smoke alot if you want to but drive it right and you can hardly see it. I do not think anything is leaking since I have changed the oil and no fuel showed up in the analysis. Also fuel mileage did not change with the install but when I got to about 2000mi it went up about 4mpg. I think that the quick change in mpg is because out of 3200mi 2500 was with the 5ver in tow. This broke it in quick.
