Trump on import/ export and CAT vs. Komatsu

I like that ballistics calculator. Also that glass , 30mm tube brings in a lot of light , I don't really need that much magnification

Dont worry about the exact scope. Im just saying that a "target" scope costs about half of what a similar "field" scope costs. The field scopes use much more expensive materials in case you bump it on a log or drop it in the mud. If it is going to be a bench rifle you dont need it to be immune to nature. The objective lens also makes a big difference in light gathering. I have a 1in tube 50mm objective that gathers light better than the 30mm tube with 44mm objective. Compare the following 2 scopes. They have almost identical magnification and objective lenses, but the target scope is half the price. It also has a lifetime warranty where the field scope has a limited lifetime. Im just sayin that for a bench rifle, your money will go a lot further with a bench scope.

A for the bullets, heavy bullets at moderate velocity is my preference. I checked on the calculator, and your rifle will be able to stabilize just about anything up to a 1.5 in length regardless of weight and above 1800 fps. Length is the main thing anyway with limited mag length. I have a 2.85 mag length and have shot hornady 208s without any issues. The 225 cast spitzers I make are only 1.315 long, about the same length as a jacketed 165-190 grain depending on the make and design. Sierra bullets tend to be a little shorter and fatter and should work well. Burger VLD bullets have a very long nose and will just waste space.

KBurgoyne,
OH?? Sorry Boss!
Only if You are comparing apples to rocks!
The examples You provided are from two completely unrelated categories of scope.
Leupold has multiple lines to choose from. Multiple price ranges, to boot.
I don't know the budget requirements of the OP, but the VX-2 line has multiple scope models. This is a "more budget friendly line" with less tech..
There are also VX-3"s and the VX-6's (And others). Personally I prefer the VX-3's. You can find Target and Hunting scopes within this category at less than $1000.
The VX-6 line also has their specialty scopes, but these are new technology and mostly at or above $1000. Shop around! EuroOptic.com, CameralandNY.com as well as Optics Planet have deals on different scope lines. This past weekend, Optics Planet had a 10% off deal on everything, up to a $500 discount. Euro Optic will meet prices!
My ALL AROUND FAVORITE Optic is Nightforce! Ya better have a GOOD Job:-laf
The point being is that hunting scopes and target scopes are not separated out by price. With SIMILAR technology incorporated, the prices are nearly identical!
If a scope has less technology like an adjustable objective lens instead of a side adjustable knob, it will be cheaper. BTW! any optic that has the "Tacticool" look will command more money in its category. That is the Market!
Have Fun!
Greg

PS was just thinking about NIGHTFORCE and their new models of SHV scope.
Shooter, Hunter, Varmint. This category is a TOP quality optic that is within the $1000 price range, plus/minus
Ya could have received a 10% discount this last weekend at Optics Planet!

I would like to add one more thought, If I may.
If You are looking for a good quality optic at a reasonable price for the technology? Look at the Vortex Scopes.
Particularly the PST First/Front focal Plane.
These are a little less cost than the SHV Nightforce with similar power, but have the Front/first focal plane.
Which means that the reticle subtends the same no matter what power it is set on. Beneficial for range estimation without making power changes.
These scopes also have the reticle etched in glass!
I believe the SHV Nightforce is also etched glass.
Here is one example of the FFP offering in the PST Viper line!
The EBR-1 MOA reticle is my preference, here!
I have 2 of these scopes and find them a good buy ? No questions asked warranty!
While they are not NXS or ACTR NIGHTFORCE? They are not a Months income, either!
GregH

They also offer a 6-24 power and a 2.5-10 power FFP. This is their mid magnification scope.

Vortex also has the PST in non FFP which further lowers the cost!

I Hope this helps??

Just finished putting pen to paper on my AR10 build. Will be 6.5CM or 6.5x47 Lapua. Either way the gun by itself will be around $2300. Either Krieger or JP barrel (depending on which caliber I choose), POF upper parts and lower, JP BCG make up the big stuff.

Thanks KBurgoyne and Greg . Looks like I'll be spending 800-1k which I kinda figured. Heard good things about Nightforce stuff, CBlack keep us up on your build
