... armed with a heat gun, fishing line and Goo Off and sweet beard of Odin (sorry, just got back from seeing Anchorman) was it a pain in the a$$.

Anyone with tips to make this easier? Tips of my fingers are burned and raw. Theres got to be a better way...

Now take this with a grain of salt as I have not tried it yet on mine. I heard that you can use lighter fluid. It dissolves the glue, but doesn't hurt the paint so I hear.

Another thing I've used to get adhesive off of plastic and metal is that white camping gas. It melts adhesive and it just wipes off. Leaves no residue, and I would assume it is no worse than spilling gasoline on your paint which I'm sure gassers do all the time.

Try at your own risk though, but get back to me and let me know if it worked out or not.

I never saw this stuff that they use on these new trucks, man what a PITA it was to get it all off!! My letters and numbers popped off and still had all that " goop" underneath to remove!Only thing I left on was the " DODGE" and"4X4" on the tailgate thats on the same plane as that goofy looking 3rd brakelight I'm trying to figure out what to do with. any ideas? Mark

Right... to get off the adhesive. But once you cut off the badges, you are left with foam letters. I used Goo Off and it helps to break them down, but is in no way any easier. Once the foam is off, the residue is no issue.

Lighter fluid, white gas, charcoal lighter fluid are all the same stuff. Naptha. It's in the paint department for about $4 a quart. A bunch cheaper than lighter fluid. 3M adhesive remover is mostly naptha. A few other chemicals added. I refill my lighter fluid can with Naptha from the shop. Can't tell the difference in the Zippo.

pinstripe removing wheel on a drill... that is what i used. best $10cdn i've spent in a long time. i used fishing line to remove the badge, but the glue stayed behind. i washed the area after to get the dirt off, then fired up the air drill with the pinstirpe removing wheel and went at it. i was scared it was going to scratch the paint but it doesn't. used it to take the foam tape off, then final touch up with some wd40 [didn't have any googone stuff] then a final wash of the whole truck to get all the bits of foam and wd40 off the truck. worked great and had all the badges gone in about 1 hour [vs the 30 min each i had when i removed the cummins badges a while back with nothing but fingernails and elbow grease...:eek::eek:]

I tried all the chemicals with fairly poor results. My fingernails worked ok as a scraper, but they got sore too, so I picked up a PVC cap for a 1" pipe and used it as a scraper. The chemicals would soften up the foam tape and the PVC cap would scrape it off but not mar the paint. Helped alot but it is still PITA. You'll be happy with the look when you get done.

da best

For those of you trying to de-badge, leave the area exposed fora little while in the sun. Take dental floss and work it on the edge of the Badge as if it were your teeth. Be careful not to go to fast as the friction will make it break to often. No scratch no mess, any residue will come off with some polish... .

This is exactly what my next door neighbor (painter for the local Dodge body shop) used on mine. Only caution was to keep it moving so that you don't create too much heat. He used a solvent (check a local body shop for which to use) and dribbled it down a wide putty knife (I would use a plastic one, but his metal one worked well) behind the badges. Careful to NOT twist, just rock back and forth as he forced it between the badge(s) and the body. A little bit of clean up with some very light polishing compound to get rid of the 'shadows' and it looks great. Probably took him 1. 5 hours for all the badges, so it isn't quite a snap to do, but it does look great. .

Since all agree to use a heat gun/hair dryer, it is assumed that doing the job in the sun is the best. Not so. I did some of mine in the sun and a lot of the sticky rubber stayed and was a pain to remove. Next morning I went at it again. Cold morning, cold steel, the glue doesn't stick well. Use the heat gun/hair dryer on a cold morning and it comes right off. The rest I rubbed off with gasoline. Only problem with this is you will have to wait till winter.

Yeah! Mark I have a idea for the light on the tailgate. You can send it to me if your wanting to get rid of it. I'll gladly pay for the shipping. :D

I try this stuff called UN-DU Sticker & Decal Remover. I got it a Wal Mart and this stuff works good. Better the Goo Gone, it's also safe for the paint.

I completely de-badged the new truck yesterday, and I think I found the fail-proof method. . (Since I de badged the last one)

First you gotta be patient and take your time so you dont scuff up the clear coat. Get the emblems off and them take your time getting off the foam crap. Make sure you have plenty of beer!!! I think I spent about 50% of the time de-badging and the other 50% drinking beer. . So then after all the foam was long gone I used gasoline and soft paper towels to melt off the adhesive then I polished and waxed, looks killer!

Gasoline does have a good use afterall!

I cut my embles off with the fishing string, then cleaned the glue off with "Hi-Solv" is a cleaner that the body shop uses to take wax and crap off a car before they put paint on. It took the glue right off, very easily.
