The truck cranks over a fair amout before it fires when cold .

the otherday it cranked a fair amount over when parked on a hill

when warm . it has around 193700 miles .

Is it the Pump , Injectors , or the lift pump ?

going down the road it seems to be ok

try bleeding the system using the lift pump to get an idea how much the lift pump is actually doing.

When my LP failed it would hardly pump anything. That should have been a warning sign but it didn't sink in. ;)

My guess would be lift pump or injector pump. It is really hard to put a life span expectancy on these things, with fuel quality going down- I've seen 50K pumps that were on their last legs, while others had 400K+ and going strong.

ALso, check your fuel lines from the lift pump, through the filter, into the injector pump, and the return lines, too. Mine got hard to start for a while- return line was broken almost in two. Kept pressure up and air bled out when running, but once it got shut off, air got in the system. By har dto start, I mean more than half a revolution when cranking in summer weather.

I might try the lift pump since it is the cheapest fix

It dont start like my 90 engine in my Burb project it fires first turn with no blue smoke either , my 92 blows blue when it first fires

should a person use cummmins only or does it matter on a lift pump ?

Mine was a Carter from NAPA that lasted 2 years. The replacement I just installed was also a non Cummins. It is also probably junk but timing dictated my choice.

I don't know who makes the Cummins pumps. If it's a company that mass produces pumps like Carter the quality is likely the same.

I drove 50mi one way, and spent an extra $15 to get a "genuine" Cummins LP. Looked on it, and it said "Carter. " Could have saved a bunch. I am not impressed with the Airtex I have in my 92 now. I can draw it down to 3psi wtih stock injectors.
