Chris,,First I need to put my anti-flaming suit on to protect myself here cause this I got a feeling is gonna hurt... Now that its on I am readddyyyyyy... ...

I agree with Cobra totally on how this guy could have cited you and myself feel he was trying to politely warn you, even though he may not have been very polite or forthcoming,,Had to bite my lip recently early in the morning when I was stopped and hassled about ride height when we both know he stopped me for noise(he just politely commented about the "thunderous noise'' when I gassed her in a small town late one nite, point was taken and yes I did accept my ticket for ride height which i went to court over and got tossed recently),,Bottom line if stacked or sidepipes they must have a heat shield unless they were factory equipped(i know of alot of vechicles with side pipes from factory and NONE that I know of except the original A/C Cobras were heatshield delete,,Most states even in the heavy truck market even mandate shields for stacks and will enforce it along with the muffler law),,I have chatted with the local PSP inspection head guru,he is a long time family friend of ours, worked with my Dad(as did Cobra),his quote was simple for you-Heed the warning and move on,life is too short,,Officer may have had a bad nite/day and you could have just tripped his trigger the wrong way...

The comment about local P/T flunky hits a nerve that does not enthuse me at all,,Remember this, while we all at times do not agree with their methods or their ways of doing their jobs, but,in the end when we need help who do we run too,,Think of it,jack this officer up for doing his job, like it or not,and how fast do you think he'll respond to help you the next time,,Its not right what you think he did, but,he was within his rights as mandated by our screwed up inspection code/vechicle code(Yep,Steve a new showroom stock truck WILL fail in PA,thats a known fact and the reason for some latitude),,I lived with a man who had 35yrs in the PA State Police who also did some PT police work locally after his retirement and I'll say this he was one you'd not want give attitude too, trust me I know first hand,,Just because they are PT officers does not mean they do not know their jobs... .

We all push the code limit here in PA,even me and we have to know when its time to pay the piper,,Cited unjustly ,go to court-Feel he was right, anty up and move on,,No one likes it,its the way it is no matter what state were in,,Someone also said something about hitting the cop earlier,I'd like to see ya do that, how fast can ya say "Honey I need bailed out cause I decked a cop",give me a break here, you need to think a little harder before you hit the enter key...

I'll leave with this,Steve, now I am dissappointed with you,,I see where here you said about adding names to the "I wanna be a moderator" list,,Now you know good and well Sledpuller and I have already volunteered and were passed over,we feel slighted,no cake for you when I see you... ..... Andy

Good post Andy  . 16 years ago, when I first started, we used officers that were called Specials. They were armed, though they only received a minimum of training through a local academy. In all fairness to them, proper training would have helped. Our 'Specials' were used for duties that the full-time officers could not perform, due to the lack of staffing, such as traffic details and school events. Even though their training provided for MV law and the Criminal code, they were forbidden from enforcing such duties unless they presented themselves while they were on their assigned post. They were paid, at a rate way below full time officers, and their lack of constant exposure to the job was their downfall, IMHO. Some were very professional, many were absoulte disgraces to the uniform. I'll never forget the view I had one 'Special', directing traffic at a very busy intersection during the 4th of July, with a large container of coffee in one hand and a cigarette in another. He was actually using his head to motion traffic.

We no longer have armed speical officers, though we still retain a small staff of unarmed officers. All that remain are complete professionals and should be recognized for their lackluster duty, with very low pay and zero benifits, short of the statisfaction they receive from doing a great job.

To end, I'd like to say that I am hardely an angel, with a straight stack and very smokey injectors. I haven't been stopped in another town yet, but I'm sure the day will come and I might even receive a summons, depending on the officer. Like you said, if it's issued unjustly, go to court and fight it. If your guilty then your guilty. Minor equipment violations are a small price to pay for driving a great truck.

The bottom line is that, if Chris would have been treated more professionally, this thread would probably not even exist.

If it has come to the point where we have to THANK the POLICE for not arresting us at any time, because we are are all breaking the law, then the revolution is near.

Sorry to all out Members on the force and the good cops out there, but just because it is a law, don't make it right.

Keep the hands of the stacks boys, and you won't get burnt.

I called the police when my truck was stolen. Lots of help there, they gave me paperwork for the insurance company. No money in looking for REAL criminals.

It all comes down to one thing.

CHARACHTER!!!

It takes a special kind of LEO that can separate the BS letter of the law from the real violations than someone who is going to make the world right single handedly because that individual feels that they "are the law". These are the guys that deserve admiration and praise for doing a tough job and doing it well day in and day out. Thank God there are still a few of them around.

I have to agree with Sled Puller. We should have to thank the Cops for not getting a ticket? To me, that leans towards the action of a police state moreso than a free state. Unfortuneately, the trend of officers that want to tick people off rather than solve a problem is on the rise. I think that ego's are becomming a prerequisite more than intelligence. Although, I don't blame the good guys for the rotten state of affairs.

And any of you that think that I am just picking on them and should just shut up and go away, I am one of those "specials" that 'Saint referred to. Actually, "reservists" as we call them. The lack of training is bad, and the additudes are even worse. Most use this as a starting point to become full LEO's, and at that point it just seems to get worse. Just my observation.

I have many stories of incompetence to tell. But that wouldn't help any. But, I would like to say that when I work with the cops, the ones I respect the most are the ones who are more interested in the well-being of the community they serve and not just in who's breaking the "law".

Funny how things change so rapidly here in the beloved TDR. I have made my point. Ask me for my drivers liscense and registration when you pull me over, do things by the book, treat me with respect like I treat you and if ya gotta write me up then be my guest. Just keep a full ink pen handy cause you'll probably see me again with another illegal mod.

No money in looking for REAL criminals.

Right from the forensic investigator for the PSP's mouth. The problem with the anhydrous ammonia deal we are having. Asked why cant get a little more investigation into this problem, and that is what they said. The biggest majority of the troopers have been sent to catch speeders/write tickets. There is no money in throwing someone in jail. And no, they dont have a quota, but if they dont write enough tickets, they hear about it.

This post was NOT intended as a flame to law enforcement personnell. It WAS a gripe about a stupid law and the unprofessional way it was handled.

I guess I should feel lucky...

I just went to court for speed greater than reasonable and negligent driving, they did not say one word about the modified exhaust. Both cops showed up to testify, and the one said he heard me coming from over the hill, and said"holy cow :--) "... Doug
