Cummins 5.9 or Cat 3126E

Almost bought a VW TDI

I was driving home on the seward highway coming off a stoplight, when this brand new, totally stock looking black 6. 0 powerstroke got right on my tail, then swung out into the next lane and accellerated to pass me. Of course, no self-respecting (with the exception of those more law-respecting) dodge cummins owner would allow that to slide by... so I turned on the drag comp, and floored it to get rid of him. To my suprise, not only did he keep up until near the very end of the run (at which point I had to slam on my brakes to make a red light,) he actually got a little ahead of me for a while.

At the sroplight alongside of me, he rolled down his window and told me, "pretty good," then procedes to tell me how his powerstroke is governed to 85mph (which is crap, because although I caught up to him and barely got ahead of him, we were BOTH still accellerating). I noticed he had a set of gauges barely visible above the dash (not the telltale piliar like mine, but gauges none the less, so I imagine it was somewhat modified. ) So, we rolled up our windows, and I threw it in 4 wheel drive (being on wet roads from a stoplight, I definately needed it if I wanted to move at all when I dropped the clutch). The light turned green, I dropped the clutch, and pulled way out in front of him off the line, when right as I went to shift into 3rd... MISS! Dang 6-speed shifter! (I know... I know... it was partially MY fault... but still... other 6-spd oarsmen know what I'm talking about!), and the powerstroke got ahead of me... I played catchup from then till the time he turned a couple blocks down. I passed him, but I don't know if it was because he was slowing down to turn or not, so I didn't really consider it a victory by any means.

I was kicking myself all the way home for missing that shift!

Oh well... as so many others have said before me in a similar situation... TIME FOR MORE POWER MODS!

Just for reference, I have an '02 eth 4x4, qc, lwb, w/ dd3s, drag comp, pdr hx-40, scotty II, ats exh man, 4" str8 exh, bd short shift, south bend fe, 3. 55s, and 315/75's.

The furd dun good... dang flowersmoke...

Man bet your tail was getting ready to tuck up!Just remember he has 2 extra cylinders and half the longevity as the "little"6cyl. ;)

S,

I will say this that if furd will get the kinks out of the 6L and they will it is going to smoke 95% of the 2nd gens out there! time to get yourself an 03 CTD. an 03 ,dd3's ,hx40 ,timing box, will smoke that 6L like he was sitting still. with a box the 6L coughhickupchokes make some power. and because of thier high reving nature they turn into a decent dragster on the high end. 0-60 no doubt the cummins gotem. I know that when i am done with my 03 aint no coughhickupchokes going to pass me. that is unless i miss 3:-laf #@$%! (been there done that, its a real adreneline and testosterone killer)

PS these 6speeds will not go into reverse doing 75! hit 3rd missed 5th... . ouch... ..... wife reaction "this is a 40K blablabla #@$%!... ... not a toy"... ... i think to myself... "yea right"

she aint seen nothin yet boys;)

I suppose you are including the 95% of stock 2nd gens out there? 450hp is still stout standing up against the 6. 0L. The dodge should have smoked him. I know my auto would have.

I Know. :D BTW not Slush STICKS War but a Slush Stick war :D ;)

God I kill me.

I can say that a warmed over PSD is quick. I ran my budds f 350 with Propane and injectors and a Ht3b that went in favor of the garrett. And I gotta say WHOA I had a pucker factor of 8 on that run.

Now The 6. oL They run really good (When they do ;) ) from the dealer lot. The same guy had a stocker 6 litre and I like it. I can imagine those with some work done gotta rip allright. HOWEVER I did not think that the aftermarket supported the 6. 0 as of yet?

Keith Locklier of DD said there is a 100HP advantage to the automatic.

In other words,, at any given time two similarly equipped trucks,, one with auto, one with manual, the Auto will have 100 more HP in the 1/4.

A 600HP 5/6 speed will be as fast as a 500HP Auto.

Those six-point-oh's can run real fast. A simple plug in chip with 140HP above stock  and a transmission that can handle it... (Anybody want to do the math,, 325+140= ~~

BTW, that 140HP "chip" is RWHP, and is a piggy back style,, similar to what the D-Max uses for "chips".
