SS109 or M855 is not at 1900 FPS.

More like 3100. :-laf

Left to right, or muzzle to reciever, these are:

plate 1

30-06 AP on 3/4" steel plate. Clean through.

Barley noticable next to the 06 hole is 7. 62x39 lead core. Hardly left a smudge on the plate.

Plate 2:

30-06 AP on 1" steel plate. Went about 3/4 the way through and left a good dent on the back.

Next to the 06 is again 7. 62x39. Dimple was a little better, but nothing compared to the ol 06.

Plate 3:

Left hole is 5. 56 nato 62 gr IVI (canadian) ammo. Good hole, but not through 1" steel plate.

One the right is my handloaded 77Gr Sierra match load. I dont remember exactly, but it's a light load, maybe 2600 FPS.

I dont have a pic of the RR plate, it stayed at the house when my parents moved from there and this was before digital cameras were plentiful.

I'm working on some 405 gr 45-70 loads out of a Marlin guide gun.

They tell me 1800 FPS aint a problem.

I'm not sure I want it to go that fast. The recoil must be terrible.

The guide gun is about as ergonomic as a broomstick. :{

That reminds of a Navy Arms, rolling block, 45-70 I had for a while. I hand loaded up some 500 gr. rounds but couldn't hit 'nuthun, I was skeered of it. I got to the point I had'ta find me a small pine tree to put between the rifle butt and my shoulder to shoot it. :{ I traded it for a new S/W model 586 w/4" barrel, it sure was hard on engine blocks out at the dump, tho :)

it was a custom 50 cal hand made in wisconsin. 1 of 8 made, the guy died 3 years ago :( i think he paid like 4 grand for the gun and 1500 for the 85 mm scope lol it is a beast :-laf

Sounds like a State Arms rifle from Klaus Horstkamp. My first . 50 was one of his. Target version, #31T. Bought it in late 80's. Friend of mine still has it.

The factory loads aint bad... at least out of the guide gun. I have one of the older ones with the porting.

It helps I guess, but nobody wants to be near you when youre shooting. :-laf
