2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission steering column

will the steering column from a 1999 fit a 1995. i want to do a 5sp auto conversion and dont want the lever select on the column to stay on the truck or is there a way to take the lever off and not have any problems. if so what do i have to do to get the lever off the steering column.
