Driving on slick roads going in and out of 4WD as needed. Noticed when I got to work and making tight turns the steering still has the knuckle bind as if I am in 4WD, but I am definitely not due to real wheels spinning.

Any thoughts on what might be happening?

2001 2500 with 220k miles and never a problem.

Front end rebuilt about 10k ago.

Would also like to hear the answer to this as I sometimes experience the same issue. Goes in 4wd just fine, take it out of 4wd , light goes out, looks like it is out, drives like it is out except for the tight turns when I can definitely feel the binding and even almost hopping on really tight turns. When it does it it seems to take a really bumpy road ( like hardcore washboard) to get it stop/release. Even took it to a trusted shop to have them look at it. They could find nothing wrong and it seemd to work for them. And since then (last month) it has worked fine for me as well but...

What happens is sometimes the lock in the front differential does not full disengage? I have actually had to go in reverse and then back to drive to disengage the lock. Also, check all your vacuum hoses, they are often the culprit.
