Does the steering wheel have a lock postion when key is not in?? The auto trans. show it in the owners manual, but I have 6-spd. and don't know if you should be able to turn wheel without key???????
Thanks

It has a lock. Just get it going down a little hill with the key out and you'll find the point where it locks up #ad

RustyTRanch,
Yeah,What's the deal?Mine doesn't seem to have a lock point on the steering wheel either, and Iv'e turned it probably 1/2 in either direction. Mine is a 5spd. The 95 auto I had would lock real tight when the key was removed. Anyone else? #ad

Occasionaly mine will lock and then when I attempt to start it the key doesn't work until I work the steering wheel a little ways.

Alan... geez, your idea brought back a bad memory. I was living in Great Falls, Mt, and took a ride to the airport with a friend, in a 1975 Ply. Duster. Coming back down the hill, he decides to conserve fuel... turns off the key, and out of habit, LOCKS the steering wheel. He slammed on the brakes, which tightened my seat belt... I was yelling to turn on the key, as we slid thru the median, coming to a stop as we were headed north in the southbound lane of I15.

Never, never try this at home!

I didn't think mine locked when I first got it either. I would turn the wheel back and forth, and it wouldn't lock. Then one day when I hopped in it my leg bumped the steering wheel and wahlah, it locked. So it does lock, just not as easily as a car.

Hey, dumb luck!! #ad

The steering wheel does lock!!
You must turn it 180* to get it to lock.
I just don't like thing not to work.

See, I told you it would lock. You had to play with it to get it to lock. If you do it my way and turn off the ignition while moving down some sort of incline where your brakes don't work very good with the engine off, you'll find that locking mechanism faster #ad

. Similar to my Grandaddy. He had a 36 Ford Coupe. That was the first vehicle I ever heard of with the locking steering wheel. First day he brought it home, he shut off the ignition, removed the key and coasted down the driveway and through four of the posts on the barn lean-to before he got stopped. Broke him of that coasting/gas saving habit.

Later ya bunch of hee-haw lookin, knuckle dragging, diesel sniffin, "can't get my steering wheel to lock" rascals.

I ASKED THE SAME QUESTION A FEW MONTH AGO AN WAS TOLD THAT IT WILL ONLY LOCK IF YOU TURN THE SWITCH OF THEN TURN THE WHEEL A HALF A TURN. WERE DID DC COME UP WITH THIS IDEAL(MEXICO)?

Meheeco. No way man. This is a confidence builder for people to think there is no lock and that this big hoss can be rolled around without the key on. It works great till you have to turn the wheel about 180. Then you get that feeling like you almost turned over backwards in your chair..... but didn't.

Rob, you definately reminded me of my younger, less enlightened days. The same thing happened to my cousin and I when we were with a slightly stoned "friend" of ours. About 2 #ad
'clock AM commin'down Lewiston hill (Seven miles of 7%grade). We were rounding a curve about halfway down when he decides he wants to hear nothin but the wind. He removed the key. I think we were fortunate, but I can't be sure of it. The old Pony kept curvin around and ended up smack in the middle of a runaway truck ramp! Nothing but teeth and glass! I think we stopped in less than 2 feet! From like, 60-70 Mph. Kind' like fallin out of bed, same amount of time to think, it justs hurts more.
