I've got a 97' 2500 that could use either a new (from a junkyard) steering wheel, or a lot of TLC. The main problem is that the horn button on the left is stuck. Because of this my horn is disconnected. I've put a little effort into trying to clean around it with no results. Has anyone else come across this problem? My Dad has a 97' 1500, and he is beginning to have the same problem. It's pretty embarassing to blow the horn at someone for 30 seconds.
If I decide to replaces my St. Wheel, will it be possible? My steering wheel is scratched up pretty bad too, that's the other reason I'm interested in replacing it. A steering wheel cover just seems to simple!
 
TurboMike Yes you should be able to replace the steering wheel. You can also trouble shoot horn sytem. The horn swtiches have to be replaced at the same time. According to shop manual(96) horn swithes and wiring are one item. Horn relay should be easy to check out and you know your horns work. You have to find out where your horn system is grounding out(probally left horn switch). Apparently it is a sealed unit, so you can't check the spring is Ok. If you need info how to get to horn or steering wheel off post or e-mail I'll look up in shop manual.

Make sure you disconnect the batteries because of the air bag.
