My 04 has started to drip fluid. Looks like the steering box is leaking, and it is the seal where the stearing column or shaft comes into it at the top of the box. This really unbelieveable!! 37k and I have a leak. I have not looked into the solution for this or the cost. Any Input??

The dealer said to bring it in and that Dodge may help with it. Does that mean that Dodge will cover parts?, labor? or both? I am really annoyed with this situation. I bought this truck because of the warranty. And now stuff not covered under the drivetrain wanrranty are starting to fail at 37k. I can afford to ownd a new truck, with $800 to $1000 repair bills on top of a new truck payment. A new stearing box is $500!!!

They covered mine without question. Now you are at the warranty limit, unless this is covered under the 7/70 then your fine. If the service guy is cool you might still be able to get it covered if this is part of the 3/36 even though you are over. I had an Chevy S-10 SS and had some major problems at 38k and they covered it for me, you just gotta be cool.

I was under the impression that you guys with the '04's had a longer warranty... . but may I was wrong. I had mine replaced at 37K also. Cost to me was 400 bucks - 200for the steering box and 200 for the steering pump. I still think that this should be a TSB item, just like the pre 2003 models... . seems to have happened to quite a few people.

I had mine replaced because of a minor leak, but at 4700 mi. it was still under warranty so no problems from the dealer. They also said no seal replacement available, steering box only. they also replaced the hose per TSB for vibration while they had it. Ask about that if your truck does not have it. No money out of pocket other than loss of time.

Hmmmmm....

I'll have to keep an eye on this. I just had my steering pump and then the box replaced at 67k. Steering got very hard, and wouldn't return to center. If this is common, DC might have a hidden warranty claim. If you complain, you get reimbursed.

Dealer replaced mine at 2000 miles no questions asked. I had the pickup in for a leaking seal between the transmission and transfer case and they noticed the power steering pump leaking too so they went ahead and took care of it for me.

Leaky 05 here too.

Just had min replaced on wednesday. Seal was leaking where the input shaft from steering wheel hooks to steering box. This is not to be taken lightly here guys since your power steering pump provides the hydraulic pressure for your brake booster. Get it fixed before you wish you did. My truck only had 3500 miles when I took it in for the repair and was pretty low on fluid too. It was below the add cold line on the dipstick and engine was at operating temp after driving 15 miles.

My steering pump was replaced with less than 1500mi on the OD. Was very near leaving a drop on the floor. DC must be getting some bad seals or having a problem in the production line somewhere, as this seems to be a somewhat common problem area!

FYI, my 05 had same problem, so they must still be using the same design... . mine was under warranty of course.

My 04. 5 had the same problem around 15,000 miles. Ever since it was new you could hear a noise when you turned the truck. I figured that with the pump replaced the noise would be gone but it was still there. I guess the next owner will have to figure it out.

Is there anyway to replace to seal or does the whole thing have to be replaced. Mine is starting to leak from the top of the box.

I would have to say that the whole thing needs to be replaced. I only say this for 2 reasons, 1. I have had mine replaced twice 2. Dodge is cheap and if it could be fixed by replacing the seal, they would have done that for sure.
