How many miles on your FASS system

Would you buy a FASS with TDR member generated dyno numbers?

Wife and truck = auto

No wife and truck = stick

Wife and no truck =

If you auto then you DTT or ATS or one of the others very early. Add $4. 5k to the sticker price for "well built" transmission to hold the mods and pull the 5er.

I have no idea what clutch replacement $ and how often?

You gotta love, when YOU stick it, it stays stuck, my choice, but RVing solo is not my thing.

My truck spends most of its time being driven like a sports car around town, so I prefer the auto. I would likely need another 100+ hp with a stick just to keep up with my current auto in acceleration. I would never have a stock auto, stock for stock I would take a stick any day. The stock auto trans really does not make good use of our engines power.

I plan to order a new truck in the next few weeks and I am a bit torn. I don't want to order the auto unless I am prepared to spend another 3K+ to bomb it. I am so spoiled by my DTT that I can not go back to stock. :D

I do like mine but I didn't know I liked it that much. :) Oops, didn't mean to do that.

6 speed!

Just an observation: seen a coulpe of people with autos saying they wish they had gotten manuals but not any manual guys wishing they had autos. Hmmm.

2 auto's

I have an 01 with the DTT full package and an 04 that is new...

No need to have an inferiority complex imposed by some of the standard guys here! I paid extra for the auto and will do it every time!

THEY DO

Forestry transport on automatic

We went to Abitibi, near Val d’Or, for this month’s owner-operator profile. Our subject is a forestry transport driver named Guy Sasseville. Going against the trend, he has outfitted his brand new Sterling with a severe-service Allison automatic transmission. After a day spent in the forests with Mr. Sasseville, we present a four-page report, containing many photos, on this very special man and his remarkable equipment.

STERLING:

The low-cab-forward Condor offers a maximum GVW rating of 80,000 lb. . and engine ratings from 305-350 hp. The Condor comes standard with an Allison automatic transmission and Eaton Fuller manuals are available optionally.

349

Kenworth:

Eaton/Fuller Class 8, 10speed transmission and rear axle with a 5 year 750,000 mile parts and labor warranty. That is a long warranty. The transmission is about the easiest to shift manual transmission around. An AutoShift by Fuller and an Allison Automatic is an available option but cost are likely to run 10% higher than stock units.

And there is more... ...

Seems a beefed up auto can pull too!

if they wanted an automatic to pull, they'd put them in "BIG" trucks. what do ya think?

Thats right they do, just look at Millis transport almost all of there trucks are now autos.

I got the 5 speed in my truck cause I couldn't wait to get the 6 speed,    wish I would have now.

Id like to be able to fit a 7 or 8 in there some how, some day:) :D  :D .

The more the merrier.

I'll comment on the EATON auto shift, being that I see alot of them in the shop. The should have left the F out of shiFt, because that's what this transmission really is. I love EATON trans, but the autoshiFt sucks. Allisons are good for garbage trucks, just ask the guys that overhaul them every 50,000miles:rolleyes:

5spd in my truck because I couldn't find a 6spd for sale that i could afford.

hey truckie, you like shifting gears?

did you ever try an old mack "b" model that had a 5 and 4 trans.

20 forward and 4 backward gears.

talk about shifting:--) my arm hurt after driving that truck for a day. it was a B-421 with a straight 6 gas. NO power steering, NO syncronizers, NO most everything except weight. what a beast.

going through the gears in reverse was a real trip. :D

I use my truck as daily driver and didn't feel like rowing to work every morning. :p :p :p :p However that being said, if stock was the only way to have a automatic then i would have the 6 shooter.
