I think the G-56 falls far short of a "fool proof" drivetrain. Evidence already shows it is prone to early failure compared to the previous NV-5600 if it is subjected to frequent heavy towing. I wonder how it will tolerate power adds and power launches for applications like acceleration contests or sled pulling?

I am only making an educated guess here but, the smjr brings the low hp california earlier CR engines up to the same HO of engines of those years because the jr replaces factory programming (factory program gets stored in the smarty box so to speak.

If the Smarty for the new 6. 7's works the same way , than it is highly plausible that the 600 would be increased to 800 and then 100 on top of that.

Of course, I could be out in left field on this but I'm sure someone who has first hand experience on this will clear it up.

S Morris... thank you. That is exactly what I was wondering. As far as the warranty goes. I get it. My original post had no warranty questions. Thank you for the insight though...

The early SO trucks that run a smarty get the same HP increase as the HO trucks. Its DOES NOT bring the SO level to the HO level. So if the Smarty gives the HO truck 100 HP it will give the SO truck 100 HP.

305 to 405 HP(HO)100 HP increase

250 to350 HP(SO) 100 HP increase

Marco has specifically stated that it re-tunes an SO to an HO, and then adds the power. So an SO on +100 is actually +155 (ish, as Smarty power is rwhp, and OEM power is crank hp).

Nothing on 4th gen's yet, I was referring to HOBrian's comment.

I haven't heard on the 4th gen HO yet, I think only the JR67 supports it.

I am not so sure they are equal I have seen so's and ho's set on the same level and there is a noticable diff in the power on accell

The info put out my MADS is that they use the HO base tune for 03-04, so they are tuned the same. 5spd vs 6spd?

If anybody thinks the transmissionm is actually getting 800 ft\lbs of TQ on the newer trucks and a G56 will take a constant 900 ft

lbs I have several briges for sale. Cheap. :-laf

The G56 is only rated at a constant 550 ft\lbs, it won't live long under sustained loads. The autos are all under clutched and over managed, but, at least they can be programmed to save themselves. Hence the RFE is the only choice with Max Tow.

Don't get too caught up in the engine ratings marketing game and expect that to be available as installed in the truck. It won't happen with the management systems in place cuz any of the transmissions in the LD trucks would grenade themselves under those conditions.

The power ratings race is the demise of a manual transmission, thats just the physics of the whole thing.

Yes and no. Anything can be broken if you try. My '01 has the original clutch and transmission, 205K miles with 335hp/852tq. rear wheel, modified at 36K.

My '91 also has the original clutch and transmission. 312K miles with 263hp/708tq. rear wheel, modified at 100K.
