2004.5 transmission/Warranty Question

Well moving is not an opion, at least until I retire. But all of you are right, this is going to have to be resolved by Chrysler. We (my tech and i) should hear something today. As far as going to another "Idiot" after three different checks I believe it's going to take some kind of intervention from Chrysler.

But keep the reply's coming I really appreciate it.

My 06 just passed NY, I think same as CA, And the numbers were real low compared to acceptable level On stock truck. Yours should pass unless there is a problem. Maybe test guy input something wrong, try another place.

I don't mean to be simply pessimistic but I'll be very surprised if you get any assistance from Chrysler on a five or six year old truck long out of warranty.

I haven't even been able to get them to answer a simple question on the consumer hotline.

:-laf For all the naysayers (is that a word) The corporation is working on it ;)

Mac is in good hands, it will be resolved

I talked to the referee myself yesterday,he went to his superior... ... ... .

Their hands are tied at this point.

Anyone that needs a smog on an 04-05 might want to have the monitors looked at before going for the test. Your smog testor can do this before submitting if you ask real nice

It's in the works ;)

Harvey ,you can always ask the question here

Ca doesn't even use an opacity meter, just a code ck. visual and the monitors must run depending on year along with a visual for smoke on snap idle test

Bob4x4 to the rescue again!:) My friend's got a '05. Hope it flows for him. First he's got to find a 4" stock exhaust. He kept the cat but chucked the exhaust. The 5" is too loud for him anyway.

For anyone in So Cal the Easiest way is to just reg your truck in Needles Ca. It's Calif side Smog Exempt Trust me it work's I have used it for year's

Thanks, Bob, I usually do but sometimes when I have a question about the new trucks nobody here has an answer and it has already been tossed around.

For example, a year ago I wanted to know if my Aisin six speed automatic pumps ATF while in neutral and park positions. I asked the smartassed punks at Dodge three or four times and all I got was punk non-replies. The girls and boys (children) Dodge employs for the customer information hotline don't know anything, don't have or don't know how to read and interpret manuals, and don't have adult supervision.

Harvey.

It used to be that you could get a FLOW/PRESSURE schematic on trannys, they are/were used as references for points to test flow/pressure maybe a transmission shop can answer that question or has a schematic????? I am not sure that is the right name for that schematic, but, they DO exist as manufacturers of trannys all have one for their products. The schematic will tell you what flows exist when, as in what gear has what flow when . . Sorry I am lousy at this explination but I am not a transmission person and do not have automatics, so I have had no need to really understand them this way. A friend of mine has a transmission shop and I have seen them get out these reference materials when diagnosing a problem with a pump/valve or whatever they call this stuff. Kind of like something is closed at one place, open at another, has a lower percent of flow at idle, etc, but the diagrams tell all this information you probably are seeking. Truly a technical diagram from the few that I have seen. One should be available on your transmission, someone should have one. Of course, I do understand how it is that our current techs may not be able to comprehend this stuff, and I also understand that getting something repaired no longer is the rule of thumb, just swap it out seems to always be the answer, so maybe they really do not know or have the information . . .

CD

CD,

I was finally able to get the answer I wanted. I sent the question to Steve St. Laurent the website manager/moderator in time for the live question and answer session with Dodge engineers. The answer I received is the Aisin does pump ATF in park and neutral.

I haven't asked anyone yet so may well be completely wrong but Aisins are not very common and not very failure prone so I figure the probability of finding a local transmission shop in Lubbock or surrounding area with prints and tech info on the Aisin used behind the Cummins in a Dodge C&C is not high. If Sterling dealers had continued marketing rebadged Ram C&Cs I might have had a better chance because there was a Sterling dealer until the economy went in the tank.

Update "Brief"

Well Im back from vacation to Mammoth Lakes Ca. I went ahead and thought id take it down to see if the "Fueling', and "Components" monitors had turned on following the latest reflash and subsequent drive (1000 miles).

No such luck they still show "Not Ready":{. I spent some time with chrysler on the phone and it looks like it's boiling down to the engine being built in 04 and the truck being a 05 Model Year. Im assuming in the 04 motors these monitoring points weren't required? (I guess). Well nine weeks and counting on this one before the Registration expires.

Im sure it will be resolved I have a good team on this one. The biggest thing thats bugging me is that this issues doesn't even require lifting a wrench. Just software.

Ummmmm... . 50% of the MY05 trucks have engines built in 04. In fact 50% of the MY05 truck chassis were built in 04. That doesn't EVEN make sense. Remind the Chrysler people that MY's start in the previous year and see if that stops the silliness. ;)

Exactly, I don't get it. This is the part that gets me!. I might have an issue with the ECM. Only time will tell. I need to find out if the "Fueling", and "Components" can be turned on with a smarty?.

I think Bob is probably right, there are issues with the ECM updates that Chrysler had no idea about until all the emissions stuff came about. The sad part is they just MIGHT make you buy an new ECU becuase they can't figure out how to flash the old ones correctly. I sincerely hope you find an easy fix.

I refuse to move to or live in and area that smogs diesels over 9000 GVW or older than 1996. :-laf

It'll be in all 50 states sooner or later. Today,I was behind a Ford and a D'Max smoking like heck on the freeway here. More fodder for anti diesel folks.

True. And there are some '07's with 5. 9's, with a build date of Aug. '06. I would have expected the smog tech's to be better educated by now. I can only hope they have better knowledge of smogging diesel's by the time I get my registration.

My '07 5. 9 build date was 11-06 and Dave Smith indicated it was over in a few more weeks.
