Seems like when I accelerate hard in 5th gear and sometimes in other gears my stock trucks clutch slips. Only 25,000 miles still under warranty until march. I have drove sticks for 30 years I believe I drive them correctly. Is this common and have they done anything to correct it, will they warranty it. Please advise. THANKS.

As far as I know, the clutch is considered a wear item and is NOT covered by the drivetrain warranty.
This is mostly because different driving styles can easily wear a clutch in no time at all. I am NOT saying that you are driving it wrong-- only that it would be hard for a manufacturer to warranty a part that is easily worn by different driving habits. Still, no question ,yours is slipping awfully early in terms of mileage and age. Once it starts slipping there is really no going back without replacing the clutch assembly.

It is mostly agreed that the best way to get longevity from the clutch/components in our HD trucks is to start in 1st gear with no accelerator, and let the mighty cummins do the rest... shift up from there, again with no accelerator to increase rpm while shifting, only increase AFTER the clutch is fully let out. Of course, also keep foot COMPLETELY off of clutch pedal while driving and at stoplights.

That being said, I start in 2nd ALL the time, but also will be looking at a new SB clutch, with upgraded hydraulics, relatively soon. I just have to decide which one to go with.
I have almost 60k on my truck.

I run my Smarty on sw#3,285-75-17's and 2000# on my back. Any day now it's going to slip. Without Smarty,my truck's an absolute dog so new clutch it'll be in the future. I've only got 22,000 on it. Saving money as we speak. Hopefully,we'll get a refund this year.

I've seen a few stock truck clutches start slipping early in their life. According to engineering the dual mass does not like to be shifted slow, ie let the RPM drop between slow shifts. The reason they start slipping is each time you make the slow shift you are in essence slipping the clutch when you release the clutch between every shift because you are not close to speed matching the gears. The lower the RPM drops, the more slip occurs with every shift. Multiply that times a bunch of shifts and it equals premature wear.

Luk

This transmission/clutch combo is so quiet and operates so well, that I spoke to LUK about engineering one that could hold maybe 50-100 hp more. The guy I spoke to had a 3rd w/G-56 and agreed to speak to the owners about it. Looks like an SBC in the future though.

You won't have any of the above with the Southbend CON OFE. It sure holds well but I am not very happy with the start-off engagement. I wish I had tried the 3250DD.

cumminse263, I drove UPS trucks for 30 years and yes I drove multiple trucks in those years... but They only ever had to replace ONE clutch in a truck that I drove because it was just worn out.
With that said, I only got 20,000mi out of the stock clutch in my '07, 5. 9, G56#@$%!

My '08 started to slip at less than 5000miles. The dealer tried to blame everything they could think of, I reminded them that they were full of sh%$. At 25,000 miles I reminded them that it was still an issue, and by delaying addressing it, they were not going to fix anything. At the request of the tech, they ordered a flywheel, clutch , pressure plate and bearings. When it was removed from the truck, it was found that only a small area was making contact. The tech made it clear that it was a defective unit. The new clutch works fine, no slippage.
good luck

There was a service bulliten about the clutch adjuster not working right on some trucks I think some of us even got new clutchs installed for free. I have 103,890 mi on mine has never slipped, so far. I wish there was a way to see how much life was left, I don't want to get stuck.....
