Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Stock Auto Trans Problem

I have A '98 12 valve quad cab 2 wheel drive. My problem is this. When my truck is cold (or better said,) and driven for the first time on any given day, it has a hard time going from 2nd gear to 3rd. The fluid is level is good, however I did let it get low once in the past. I have 130,000 miles on this truck. I've never had any problems with it before. Please help!

You are likely experiencing the "undersize lip seal blues". The inner lip seal in the direct clutch (third gear) is undersized when new and after some miles gets worse. The fix is to replace it with an updated seal which requires trans removal and partial disassembly. With the miles on your truck, it would also be a good time for a freshen up along with some upgrades. A DTT converter and valvebody, along with some internal upgrades will have you good to go.

you're lucky, my lip seals went at 76,000 miles. 80% highway and very little towing!
