i tested out top speed yesterday on a lonely stretch of blacktop. 108 mph this is floored sitting on redline for a while. this was all she had. with d/f gearing this thing will do alot more, it ran up to 108 easily, almost scary how easy. if they say break'em in like you stole them well with 600 miles i am taking this literally. (avg. 12mpgs unloaded) this will tell you how this cummins is being treated.

I ran mine up to 105 to see what she would do but I had a couple thousand on it by then. And that was with 4. 10 gears. Only did it the once to say I have been there and done that. :D

Did not know you Cajun's were allowed to drive that fast!!  Just kidding ! My truck tops out the same, now to get rid of that 3150RPM limiter!!:D

My 97 4x4 cummins top out at 85mph with a 5 spd and 410 gears.

I cant wait to test my 03 QC, HO, 6 spd, 6wd, 373 gears, dually. If i can run at 90mph without redline i will be real happy. It should be in next week. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

that banks sidewinder project truck turns to 3800 rpm. i wonder will the tuning companies come out with a mode for that. .

Catcracker what gears do you have?

MMeier, I your engine Rev Limiter should be at 3400rpm, not 3150. I think you are bumping up against a speed limiter.

My 2001 HO with 3. 54 gears topped out at 118 when new and unBOMBed, but it is a push since the speed limiter starts kicking in around 112-115. After BOMBing it with DD2s and vA box, max was still 118, it just made the fuel shutoff by that point much more dramatic.

Just read this today in the local paper:

The National Transportation Safety Board recently divulged they had covertly funded a project with the US auto makers for the past five years, whereby the auto makers were installing black boxes in four-wheel drive pickup trucks in an effort to determine, in fatal accidents, the circumstances in the last 15 seconds before the crash.

They were surprised to find in 47 of the 50 states the last words of drivers in 61. 2 percent of fatal crashes were, "Oh, S. . t!"

Only the states of Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida were different, where over 89. 3 percent of the final words were: "Hold my beer and watch this!"

:D :D

I've heard the alternative in those states went something like:

"Hang on... . I want to try something I saw on T. V. the other day!"

:D :D :D

My 94 auto 3;54 did 96 for about 15 miles in New Mexico, on that stretch where they built the VLA.

Must have trouble getting any type of tv reception there, becuase they built about 25 of the dishes, as big as a barn. And they are always moving them around. Go figure.

Anyway, that is a nice stretch.

I had a dealer tell me that actual red line for the cummins is 4250. So why would they limit them to where they are, maybe because of where the torque curve is ?

the torque curve doesn't change all that much with a higher rpm limit. it will drop off in about the same spot as with the lower governed rpm, but the hp will increase. on most heavy diesel engines, the top HP is pretty much at the governed rpm. bump up the rpm, the hp will climb with it up to a point. but 3800 would be great. you don't sit up there for long anyways, and if it was selectable, so valet mode would be like 2000 rpm [and 100hp max and 40kph max speed], normal mode would be stock, and race mode would be 3800 rpm...

you might want to make sure you have 4. 10's i have never heard of somone in a ctd w/ 4. 10 stock tires and engine getting over 85:confused: might i have 4. 1 and not know god i hope not that is not what i ordered? running 70 i am a little over 2000rpms say 2125. does this sound right

when you guys run your 03 ctd up to 105+ it will scare you how much more it has if it were not for the rev limiter.

as far as us south lousianians all i can say is aaaahheeee

Oo.

Just so you know.....

The Duramax with a similar injection system has a programmer to raise HP a bit and pick up the full load governer to about 3,500 - 3,800. So the ISBe probably has the potential...

'98. 5-'02 Cummins have two different goveners set at different speeds. . Full load, and no load,, No load is 3,500 RPM full load is about 3,100-3,200.

In my truck top-speed is 114 (GPS) @ ~3,300RPM. If I push the clutch in and stay WOT I can get about 200 more RPM out of the motor.

I'm betting the '03's + are the same way.

Maybe I am a coward but 105 mph in a 4 ton truck is PLENTY fast for me. 3400 RPM is fine and my truck will probably never see it again.
