I noticed last night that under full throttle and high RPM's I can see some visible exhaust particulate in 2nd and 3rd gear. I can only see it at night looking in the mirror with a vehicle behind me such that his headlights are illuminating the particulate matter hanging in the air. I can't say if it's white/blue/black or what. It isn't visible in 4th or higher, I imagine because the increased windspeed dissipates it quicker. I've never noticed any smoke in daylight.

Has anyone else noticed this? I didn't think stock trucks were supposed to smoke at all. Maybe Cummins put 275's in my engine by accident, that would also explain why I got 248HP on the dyno on 2 separate runs. Or maybe my VP44 has problems and is overfueling the truck . Or maybe it's oil blowby and I have a ring seal problem or worse :(. Or maybe I should just keep my eyes on the road ahead under full throttle and not worry about it :D.

rspinks,

That is quite common, I have the same smoke visible with my Stock ETH at night, In fact I see that on my gassers at full throttle at night also.

it is normal, you have nothing to worry about.

put some showerheads in that thing..... you can almost make the headlights dissapear:D

Well that's good news, I wasn't too concerned about it. I wonder why it only happens at high RPM's? Do they program the fuel curve this way to make it richer, or are you reaching the limits of the intake air / turbo efficiency?

Whitmore I believe you are stretching the definition of stock somewhat .

I notice smoke from my ETH at night also. Seems to happen if I shift early in third , fourth, and fith gears and get into the pedal more than usual. Glad to hear that other ETH's are doing the same.
