The tail pipe (from muffler to outer end) started to crack real bad, especially the curved part over the rear axle at about 3 years. I replaced it from turbo back with MBRP.
I've got an 04, 300K miles and all's fine, an 04. 5 with 150K miles and a 05 with 92K miles, and a 08 with 75K miles... . on all the trucks we've had no problems to date... .
Maybe because we drive them and keep the exhaust dried out... .

98. 5k on mine including a custom bend and dent from backing into my own trailer and no rust out issues. Anybody got a stock shortbox tailpipe laying around from an exhaust swap?
Had like 23k on the truck before the stock system met my friend the sawzall and i went to duals. Not a lot of miles but the pipe looked good for the 4+ years it was on there.
The “drone” without a tailpipe was a bit of a surprise. A band clamp from the local Cummins store and some cleaning up and its as good as new. Hopefully it will last to 100K (which should give just enough time to read through all the cat back exhaust threads!)
The pipe rusted off at the back of the muffler on the '04. 5 that my brother-in-law drives in early 2008 and somewhere around 150,000 miles. The road salt around here just kills anything that isn't good quality stainless regardless of how much the truck is used.
