Here we have one of the most rugged, mean lookin, macho, tough, rattlen trucks out there. But when you hit the horn, this little wimpy “beep” comes out that can't be heard 10 ft away. What's up with that?

I am all most afraid (embarrassed) to "beep" my stock horn.

What have you done to get a real horn on one of these beasts?

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

Several people have installed air horns. Big Bob has Hadleys, and Papa Joe has Grovers(or vice versa). They both sound great. I bought a cheap set at Schucks for 22 bucks... they are loud, but not nearly as deep sounding as the other ones. Much louder than stock.

I'd rather be... .
Cummin than Strokin.

Hella has a set of replacement horns that are supposedly louder, for around $25. Or you can get some inexpensive Hella airhorns for $25-$35.

Just a thought.

I got an Electronic air horn/PA (Like the police cars have)> It was $130. 00 plus $79. 00 for the speaker and the horn is completeley legal since it is a single tone. However, using a PA system is NOT legal. It is legal to have, you just cant use it. It really turns heads, as soon as you blow it they look all over the place for a cop. I mounted the contol box under the seat and mounted a momentary switch on the dash. Go to www.galls.com You can even listen to WAV file of what it sounds like.

I hooked a set of Hadleys direct to the horn wiring. Bothe the electric and air untill the 4 gallon tank is empty.

Give us some links so we can shop around for a horn, heck I've already spend 5k extra on the truck, spending another $ wont hurt!

If you want a loud horn, just put a couple of 6 volt horns on your truck. But don't honk them to long.

I just went to my local junk yard and asked for the loudest horn he had. Paid $10 for one that has writing on it that looks Russian, draws 30 amps. It's the loudest electric horn I've ever heard and the price was right.

If you're going to do it, might as well do it right. Get some real air horns... either Grovers or Hadleys.

A truck passed by my house the other day and let loose with what sounded like a freight train horn. Wife went through the ceiling. I WANT ONE. I do a lot of city driving and sometimes people need a WAKE UP.

They are air horns, with an electric compressor... no air tank. These horns are not as deep sounding as the "big boys", but are plenty loud. I got mine in Oregon for 21. 95, no tax. And I used a "pesky" scotchlok to connect them to the old horn system.

where do you get hadleys??? i would like a set for my dodge

Evan... I knew that would get ya, but I really did use one. I have used them for years, and so far have never had any troubles with them. #ad
