On the TST website it says that to benifit from pump being turned up some need bigger injectors how do you know that,is there certain years that are diffrent I have a 93. I'm new to bombing and have alot of questions.

You can get some improvement by adjusting the pump with stock injectors, but it does put an increasing strain on it the further you go.

Up-rated injectors allow the pump to do the same or less work and make more HP/torque.

A good place to start if you want fairly clean power is the 180HP injectors.

Talk to Piers or Joe D. for sourcing them. The next step up is the POD's (Lucas). For our trucks these babies are like shower nozzles. They make good HP, higher EGT's (depending on pump settings) and MORE smoke.

Either way, your pump timing should also be adjusted a bit from stock settings to help work in conjunction with those injectors.

Oh ya, be sure to put in some basic gauges too. . EGT, boost are good starters.

Good luck... Bob

countryboy,

My understanding is that the injection pump on our trucks will not stand up very long if you turn it up too much. As you probably know these pumps are not cheap. If you are planning on "bombing" your truck then my recommendation would be the first thing is get a set of gauges (pyro & boost) . In my opinion the best bang for your buck will be a set of new injectors either PW's or POD's (i. e. Bosch or Lucas)and get the timing set and the rpm maximum increased. In fact with the new injectors most likely it is not necessary to turn up the pump. New injectors are a lot cheaper than a pump. To improve the spool up of the turbo a smaller housing is required . If you want something for almost immediate response go with the 12 cm or the 14cm, however, if you are using your truck to do a fair amount of towing then the 16cm will be better. After that if you still have the original exhaust you may wish to upgrade to a new exhaust system that will eliminate some of the restrictions of the stock system. These are just a few things that will get you started.

I have the following modifications on my 92 4x4 5spd.

PW injectors (Bosch)

16 cm Turbo

Timing @ 1. 4

RPM max @ 2900

Dyno results with modifications

220. 2 hp @ 2780 rpm

478. 9 torque @ 1880 rpm

Dyno results stock (no modifications)

157. 1 hp @ 2480 rpm

362. 6 torque @ 2000 rpm
