Just curious on how many miles/hours the stock lift pumps are lasting. I have over 50k on mine and am wondering if I should replace it with a pusher pump now or try to get more miles out of it. I don't want the in tank pump that DC is installing under warranty.

it seems most of the stock, or close to stock trucks are having good results but moderate to heavy fueling mods its easy to suck them dry and burn em up.

I got 89,000 out of my factory unit, 86,000 miles out of the replacement, and I have 30,000 miles on the in tank replacement. 205k on the truck. Our 05 has 70k on it, no problems.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I'll keep it on for awhile longer. Was there any warning of imminent failure of the pump?

On my factory pump I had driven from TX to WA state, pulled into a flying J and the truck died. Took a bit to get going again, fired up, idled for awhile and drove on into Seattle. Driving home through eastern WA I pulled in for fuel and coasted to a stop. Engine died and I sat for 30 minutes before it would restart. Made it to MT, it was cold out and the truck ran fine. Hit I-90 outside of Billings pulling the hill at WOT to pass a row of tractors and mid way up the hill at 85ish mph the engine died. Had to be towed in.

My second gave up the ghost without any notice at all. I felt it coming in my gut, so it wasn't a big shock when it happened.

My lift pump died yesterday. 49k miles. No warning--just driving down the street at 25 mph. --truck died. This is the second pump. First pump went out at 30k. Again no warning. Edge was set in #1 position, as usual. Dealer is going to install new in tank replacement--when they get one--nation wide back order--they say it might be 7-10 days--this s**ks. No extended wty--no loaner car. At least my fuel bill will go down this month :-laf

Mine died at 29,000 (04 truck) and I have NO mods done to the truck.

Check Engine light came on and 5 minutes later the truck died in an intersection.

In regards to modified engines being harder on a lift pump, I cant see how that would be. The pump runs 100% of the time wether the truck is idling or at full throttle and the load upon it never changes.

Many stock trucks have dead pumps at anything from a few hundered to a couple of hundred thousand miles.

Neighbors 03 traded in at 151k no issues. Another friend with a 03 and 129k as of last week. No issues. THESE TWO guys don't know what a additive is! Diesel fuel only and one of them TWICE now ran fuel filters 30k

Mine went out just before Christmas at 272,000 miles. I have run an Edge EZ for

almost all of those miles. I really don't know why some last a long time and some go out right away. I lost my CP3 pump at 149,000 miles, way before my lift pump died. Go figure.

This is a very intresting thread. Some guys have high mileage before the lift pump goes out and some low mileage. I would be curious if you guys with the high mileage lift pumps used diesel additives such as stanadyne, power service and so on?Have you low mileage guys used any additives also? Thanks for any info. coobie :)

Prairie, I know that I've read somewhere that the stock 3g lift pumps only work for a few seconds when priming during the initial start-up. If the truck doesn't start initially the second attempt at starting will cause the pump to run for 20 seconds. I believe one of the TDR staff writers did an article on this when the 3g's first came out.

a note on the mileage on these, nester and jose must have felt like doing a good job 3 days out of the week, :-laf :-laf additives help some too.

I just installed a fuel pressure guage today form geno's. I took out one of the bolts in the CP3 and replaced it with a banjo bolt's from geno's for this install. Got everything hooked up, checked for leaks, did a couple of bump starts to let the air out of the isolater and I was only seeing 6-7psi at idle. What should the normal # be at idle? When I took it out for a spin, and I had it at WOT, it only seemed to drop 1psi. I know that others see their guage drop 4-5 psi at WOT, why did mine only drop 1 psi? Is it time to replace the lift pump? Had a friend w/ an '02 install the same guage months earlier, and he saw the same numbers. He decide to replace his lift pump and he then saw #'s at 14-15psi at idle instead of 4psi. Before I spend the $$ on a new one, should I be concerned with these current readings?

Mine started acting sporadic and died 100 miles later at 31k on my '03. Replaced it with an aftermarket and no problems since.

108,000 on mine with a TST PMCR box the last 36k and an EZ before that. still runs strong! Pulls heavy 90% of the time too! Do use additives ranging from MMO to used engine oil.

Means you got a good one. Watch if for a while and see if stays the same or slowlt starts dropping. The 6-7 psi at idle is pretty normal for the 3rd gen pumps. The flow is supposed to better and not need the pressure.

 NO!!! I am not opening that can of worms again!!! :(

The 02 is different pump and setup and supposedly needs and will generate higher pressure. If you start drawing the pressure down under 4-5 psi then is the time to start worrying. If you are going to replace the pump do a search on lift pumps then settle in for some reading time. There are other options available.

My 03 has over 153,000 miles and no problems yet. I usually use Amsoil fuel additives, but when on the road I don't like to carry a case of additive with me. When I am out of Amsoil I use Lucas injector cleaner, and if I can't find that I use the powerservice. I put additives in at every fill up.
