My 2500/1994 Ram was parked 20'away from my 5th wheel, since 3 weeks and in full view. One morning I found out that the stop lights were ON. Checked the stop light switch according to the manual - was OK. After reinstalling it, lights were out. 3 days later stop lights ON again. Replaced the stop switch. OK for 2 or 3 days. I placed a switch on the power line to the brake magnets in case it would happened while returning home (it did not happened). When the lights were ON, the fact that I disconnected/reconnected the batteries did not switch OFF the lights.
Lucky I had this switch because on my departure day the trailer brakes were locked. While driving for 8 days the lights never came on. At the present time, I disconnect the batteries when not in use. The dealer wanted to keep my truck for 1 week but I said no. This started deep in Mexico and I saw my bill written on his forehead. Advice appreciated.

i woke up one morning and my parking lites were on and i know for sure i shut em off. went out and switch was off. got to checkin around and the trailer plug was warm. there was some corrossion inside and it had made a connection between the parkin lites and a ground terminal. took it apart and cleaned it and it was ok then. wonder if yours did the same but with the brake terminal?

Jose, don't feel too bad about your light problem. I read at the NHTSA website about a guy who's Ram started in gear then drove off while at the same time the cab caught on fire.
All with nobody in the truck, the owner was sitting on his porch watching it all happen.

I wonder if your brake light relay is sticking?

Started to work on my truck today. By the way this happened with no trailer attached. Dismantled the 7 wire receptacle - dry 100% -no trace of any humidity - no wires touching each other. Will look now to the wiring of my electronic brake controler which is on the dashbooard.
And to illflem: Even today I had a good laugh about your post and thanks for your moral support!!! If the relay closes, it must be activated by somebody. In the meantime must disconnect the batteries.

I had a problem like yours earlier in the year. Turned out to be some loose parts in the trailer brake controller letting the "points" come into contact just sitting there. Brake lights were on and off intermittently until I disconnected the brake controller. Finally completely replaced the controller-problem solved. Hope that helps.

Jose, this controller was on a 94 chev and had been used so much it was litterally falling apart. I will look to see what brand it is/was when I get to the shop today and let you know. You might try just unpluging your controller to see if the problem goes away.

Check your brake controller. If the slightest bit of pressure is applied to the manual control on it, it will activate the brake lights. Is yours mounted on your dash? And if so, is there anything that can touch it say when the door is closed? I just used velcro to fasten mine to the dash, and when not in use, I would drape it over the emergency brake and velcro it to the side of the kick panel, until I noticed my brake lights came on when I shut the door, and then I moved it.

After 3 months and with your help I know what it is. I did not even check the wiring. A slight knock with a knuckle made the light come ON & OFF (surprise). A 2nd light knock - the same and a 3rd knock - brake controler is ON all the time. Now we know it's the br. c. . I took it off and at least I don't have to disconnect the batteries anymore.
Help very very much appreciated. Joss
