On TT's to line up the ball first time every time without fail!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get it hooked up pull it out straight set your mirrors with them folded in so you can see the sides of the truck bed, stop and have someone position a contrasting strip of Pinstripe tape as you look back in your mirrors at the TT and have them position the tape so the sides of the truck bed are just inside the tape on the front of the trailer, Don't have to be a big strip of tape just an inch or two. As your backing up, as long as you can see the tape on the front of the TT in your mirrors the ball will be in line with the hitch.

In answer to the question why one would want to defeat this, as a truck camper guy (slide in) I am with Wingate on this, necessity of backing inches at time to frequently jump out and check alignment from the back of the vehicle, etc.

When I hitch up to my boat, I have to get out a lot and look at how close I am to the ball, I slowly creep up to the hitch, and with the door open I can easily judge the few inches I have remaining. I have a manual trans so its a non issue for me, but there was a comment about why is there a need to have a door open when backing up. I don't have a spotter to help, but I do have in my budget to add a camera to the rear just for spotting the ball and hitch.

Never had to back with the door open when i drove a semi , used the mirrors only, that's why they are there, seen too many accidents when someone opened the're door and didn't pay attention to what the door was fixing to hit, Monte

When I O/O my own truck I didn't use the open door method either, I couldn't see the use in it with a flatbed and the load overhang was so long it didn't matter where the back of the trailer was cause the load was even farther out, Front and back

The door horn chime is the second most annoying thing on my truck (next to me constantly wearing out the seat foam). The angle I need to back my camper into my driveway I find the easiest thing to do was to open my door to see the back corner of the camper until the truck comes around enough for me to see it again in the mirror. I've gotten better at using the mirror, but I find at night it's easiest for me to open my door. Maybe it's me. I don't know. I'm also short and fat and not limber enough to turn around in the cab and see over my shoulder and I find it takes too long to stop in the middle of the street and adjust my mirror so I can see. I'm sure that my neighbors love me because sometimes at night I have such a hard time seeing in the mirror that I just hang the door open and let the horn blow..
Also in my truck the seat belt has nothing to do with the horn. I've tried to two foot it, but again the limber thing and being short does not allow me to two foot the pedals and turn the body around.
I've thought about cutting the wire going to the horns and putting in an inline switch so I can shut the switch off when I'm backing up.

Horn in reverse is a huge pain in my ***... Biggest reason is for me I tend to shift to park and pop door open at the same time quit a bit, damn horn honks everytime as the shift is crossing reverse.

Here is the sequence to turn off the seat belt chime.

Get in vehicle, shut all doors and buckle seat belt. Turn key to run position without starting. As soon as the seat belt light goes out unbuckle and buckle seat belt 3 times within 10 seconds ending with it buckled. Turn key off. You should hear a single chime if done properly. Seat belt buzzer is now disabled.

Been there, done that way too often. I hate it!! I had a friend wonder to if it could be disabled, but figured dealer wouldn't reflash it cause of the safety factor.

The sequence for stopping the chime of the seat belt is different from the horn blowing when you have it in gear and the door open. There is nothing you can do about the horn blowing with the door open and the truck in gear.

When I have my trailer out, I do not hook up the seat belt when I'm parking into an rv space. That is where the chime of the seat belt is annoying. Doing the sequence will stop that chime.

Thank you very much Dick. I have been trying to figure this out for as long as i have had my truck....just ran outside in my slippers and tried it......worked perfect !!
