I believe the law doesn't really differentiate between passenger vehicles and trucks but merely states something to the effect of "tampering with the emissions system". That having been said, what're the chances of being caught unless you need to visit an emissions checkpoint?At any rate if you do decide to modify your exhaust to remove the cat, I would keep the cat intact without busting out the insides, just in case you ever need it again, because they can be costly to replace. My kitty ran away and I have the MBRP "600" kit, and thus far it's been reasonable for noise levels, although the heaviest I've pulled thus far was a medium sized skid steer on a stout equipment trailer, although it's nowhere near what some of these guys pull I'm sure. I'd have to recommend that over the straight pipe though, which might get slightly too loud under load.
