Hey guys/gals. I just got my truck straight piped. Still have the kitty tho. I love the sound. Would there be any benefit to cutting out the kitty? Also is the only warranty that is hurt by doing that the exhaust warranty? Also would there be much difference from what i have already? Thanks

Well first thing is that it is not a straight pipe until you cut out the cat. You should get some more power and better mileage lower egt's all around better way to go.

I did the same to mine leaving the kitty in place. I installed gauges at the same time so I don't know the temp drops, but I wouldn't remove the kitty. I barely hit 1000 deg. full throttle empty. I've read a few posts on here regarding your question and most agree the biggest offender is the muffler. Nothing is to be gained by gutting the kitty.

But that is just my opinion.

If you tow HEAVY then DO NOT remove the cat.

We went to a West TN truck pull hauling my truck behind a 04. 5 3500 that was a TRUE straight pipe... nothing but 4" exhaust. MY GOSH THAT WAS A LOUD TRIP!

I had a set of ear plugs in my camera bag that were handed out at a pull earlier this year. I stuck them in so I could go to sleep on the way home. :{

I like the sound of mine w/o muffler or the cat. If you do get rid of the cat though i suggest you save it cause you never know if you will need it later on to pass emmissions. You shouldn't but just in case, it can't hurt to save it.

DPP sells a cat delete "test pipe". Assuming you take time in getting the cat removed, the test pipe is a direct replacement and therefore, reversable.

Be sure to ask for the TDR discount. They can't discount pipe very much, but every bit helps.

I have seen people on this board (not this thread) say that you must have the cat on or you violate federal law. My understanding is that while this is true of passenger vehicles, on 3/4 ton and up trucks you do not have to run the cat, even if it was factory installed. Does anyone know the law on this subject?

I believe the law doesn't really differentiate between passenger vehicles and trucks but merely states something to the effect of "tampering with the emissions system". That having been said, what're the chances of being caught unless you need to visit an emissions checkpoint? At any rate if you do decide to modify your exhaust to remove the cat, I would keep the cat intact without busting out the insides, just in case you ever need it again, because they can be costly to replace. My kitty ran away and I have the MBRP "600" kit, and thus far it's been reasonable for noise levels, although the heaviest I've pulled thus far was a medium sized skid steer on a stout equipment trailer, although it's nowhere near what some of these guys pull I'm sure. I'd have to recommend that over the straight pipe though, which might get slightly too loud under load.

What is their website and how much does this cost? How is that better than just cutting it out and putting in a pipe?

I've had my cat off since about day one. One day I tried removing the muffler. Cooled me down about 100degrees. Needless to say they're both sitting in my garage.

Could you do us a big favor and put the cat back on?

I'm sure there are a bunch of us that would like to know just how much the EGT's go up.
