Competition '89 block and head

Competition Hey J.R. Adtkins!!!!

I think i lost a head gasket today, but it wasnt like any of the other ones i have lost. The funny thing was that when i first parked it it was leaking a little you could see little bubbles coming out of a maybe 1" spot, right in front of number one. I thought it was that little heater line at first, but then when we went the last little bit and parked it at the barracks it was dry, and that made no sence to me at all. anyone had this? Did the truck sitting a few minutes and cooling do somehting to make it stop leaking?

aside from that i did have a little fun with the truck i accidentaly had the tires fade passing a guy at 70mph, little strange feeling for sure. it was up hill with the passing lane ending, so i rolled into the throttle as i changed lanes and the rear started walkin out on me. :-laf

The head went later on down the road. It was a legitimate accident I had no idea what to expect from these things, and i was thinking i didnt have the fuel to spin them too far and the boost snuck up on me. 75psi and more than likely way too much drive pressure. it was only there as long as it took me to get out of it.

anyways that was the goins ons. preciate any help i can get. i am dreading the hg swap with the studs.

We have pressure relief valves that would saved your head gasket on our methane generators. Ours work on fuel supply but could also be applied to the boost side of the intake system. The "pop-off valves" work in a calibrated range that would function to limit over boost at set psi ranges. They are cheap and are easy to disable for higher pressure applications. You could stage the valves in psi rating so that your total SCFM would be off-gassed sequentially. I'm sure that others have applied this in the mix, hope you get her going again. Mike

Have you re-torqued yet? Right after I did my O-rings and studs, I had a leak at the front of the head. It only bubbled out water. Turned out I had a little more protrusion on number one and after the re-torques, it went away.

they have been line torqued 4 times, but i am running 14-15thou on the protrusions. i am going to go to town and buy another gasket before the store closes, but retorque it and see what it does before i tear in to it. man i am in trouble if the fiance finds out i busted up the truck again. say a prayer or two for my tonight guys and gals i would most certainly appreciate it. good night

Hay Bro-

When ya get back into town (a real one like Tacoma) I will hook ya up with some pop off valves. I have a few installed stagered at 50-55-60. It helps keep things in control when it gets wild!!!! There cheep like 15-20 each and just take a 1/2 bung welded into your pipe. Good luck with the head.

right on Ron!!

I was just going to ask you all about them pop off valves. we line torqued the head to 130... broke em and retorqued em... . and show it 30psi and no leaking, so hopefully she is ok. barrowed a friends truck drove all the way to reykjavik and everything was stinkin closed and we were there at noon. so its still definitely suspect and i will pick up a new one wednesday... maybe they have a buy 3 get one free deal... . im do for my free one

I know soon as i get home all happily newly wed, new job, school... you nwguys are going to keep me in trouble. its just a few hours away... ... go ahead hook up and pull you'll be fine, so on and so forth. :D
