Is this similar too what your fuel filter looke like? This was the first time I changed it on my 97 since I bought it about a year ago.

Chris

I just did my filter... early... and it was full of black crap for lack of a better term. It was like if you have ever had engine sludge between your fingers in the pleats of the filter. I was told by a buddy that hauls the fuel that it is because this new ultra low has more cleaning power somehow. i guess it moves the crap at the bottom of your suppilers tank and your fuel tank to the filter... especially if it was just changed to ultra low. that is what i've heard, not goseple by any means. in my case it was true. get my fuel in same place all the time. Ran better after of course. I have seen evendence of this at work as well with trucks coming in for low power. On INT. 444 v-8 only showed 3 lbs fuel psi at wot and we just serviced it a month before... and it too had the sludge like junk in the filter. Ran great after, fule psi normal too. Just my 2 cents worth.

fuel filter

Almost the same. When i squished ( a technicle term) in my fingers this black like sludge came out... . looked like filthy motor oil. I think this will all straighten out when people pump enough fuel out of the tanks where they buy it. I am strongly thinking about a fuel psi gauge install... . although i'm running out of pillar space for one. #@$%! Anyone have a ready made kit that can be bought?

I changed my filter last night and it looked about like that. My "indication" to change it was that the truck would not always start the first try, especially if warm/just shut off. But if I gave the throttle just a little nudge, it would fire and take right off, with a little puff of blackness:-laf

Hello I just joined to day.

My 97 3500 done the same thing after the first tank of ULSD.

I change the fuel filter and it took care of it.

If I read right, ULSD will move all the dirt stright to the filter.
