Rookie here wondering what kind of HP is needed (min/max) to be competitive. Knowing the trick is getting it to the ground of-course!

If your answer is <200 or >2000 I'll know you're lying! :p

it all depends on your local competetion, alot of little town pulls 400 will take it home .

As far as real pulls ,I keep hearing rumors that the top DHRA trucks will be running 800. I am not sure how true that is ,but I knowlast year to win you had to have a solid 500+ ( more like 600)

Mak,

Since your going to start sledpulling just start throwing money at it and don't look back.

If you are going to want to be truely competitive (like as in DHRA street class) you are going to need 4k+rpm.

Chris,

Are you going to pull this month in Franklin Indiana?

Not sure yet - I'd been hoping to, but it'll be pretty tight, time-wise. Still gotta get my truck back from ADP, and then I need to do ladder bars, weight rack, trans blanket, hitch, and loops and shields.

Now that I look at the rules for this pull a little closer, though, I see they're not pure DHRA rules - is the safety stuff required for this pull?

Chris

Cool. Well, maybe I'll just slap a set of traction bars and a weight rack on it and try to make it over then...

A stock turbo class or 2. 5 charger class will require +500 to win it plus a decent truck setup. I think the work stock DHRA class will need to be pushing towards the 550 mark to be in the top. DHRA street class i'd say at least 650-700. Matt

In my humble opinion, I think Work Stock will range up to 475. Street Diesel will range up to 550-650 and Super Street will range up to 800-1000. Modified will range from 1400-1900.

I think your super street and modified numbers look good. I know for a fact there will be work stock trucks running more power than that. Maybe not dodges but i know the duramaxes will be. We dynoed a truck with stock turbo and stock injectors a month or so back with just a tune and box on it and went 506. Some good rail pressure and writing a little different tune on this truck and i think were going to see 530 or more and it's going to be in the work stock class along with some others. Might not be much above 500 for the first pull but for irp it will. There will be a bunch of 500hp duramaxes in the class as thats easy to do, it's going to be getting the next 30-50 hp that's going to make the difference.

Its gonna be hard to beat the Duramax trucks in the Work-Stock class.

I GUESS YOUR RIGHT, YOU ARE GOING TO BE DODGING A LOT OF BROKEN PARTS IN THE TRACK, MAYBE ITS JUST ME, BUT A DMAX HAS TO HAVE SOME GOOD FRONT SUSP AND STEERING WORK TO USE ALL THAT POWER!!!!!!!!!

Just my opinion, but I can't see anybody putting down 550-650 on the track having a chance of running with the top dogs in the street class this year. The Dmax fellas are bringing out some heavy hitters this year, guys...

It must just be you, $140 dollar tierod sleeves and a $5 set of 1inch rachet straps isn't what i call a lot of steering and suspension work.

I HAVE ONLY PULLED WITH 6 DMAX TRUCKS, ONE BEING A 2005 SEMA TRUCK THAT PULLED 70 FT AND SPIT THE FRONT END OUT, ONE WAS 604 H. P. THAT ONLY PULLED 170 FT AND LOOKED LIKE THE TRUCK WAS GOING TO FALL APART, THE OTHERS ALLISON COULDNT FIND A GEAR, TAKE OFF HARD, GET INTO TROUBLE, THEN DOWN SHIFT TO MANY GEARS AND ALMOST GET REAR ENDED BY THE SLED, SO NO, I DONT THINK DMAX TRUCKS PULL VERY GOOD UNLESS THEY HAVE EXTENSIVE STEERING AND SUSP WORK SO THE FRONT END DOESNT TRY TO DRIVE OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK, LOOKS LIKE THE TIRES POINT AT EACH OTHER, DRAG RACING YES, SLED PULLING NO JUST MY OPINION, NOT A ******* MATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll let the videos speak for themselves. This is what those sleeves and straps do for ya. I'm still not sure what extensive work we could do? chevy pull video
