Competition LOOK at this!

Competition Dyno at Nashville

Why is it people that have a little power always want to try it out, reminds me of High School. I'm driving home tonight from a Birthday party and I see some Duramax coming out of the car wash, Black 4 door 4x4 nice wheels and tires and what do I see BANKS POWER decals and a nice chrome tip, he comes by me outside of town on the floor looking over at me, hum so I stay at 2500 in third warming it up, temp gets up to 160 I go into O/D and pass slowly then get in front of him 3-4 lengths and lay down a 200 ft cloud..... mating call. He pulls up at 65 MPH then floors it, as I tap the brake, hammer it and lock it up, about the time he was at 75 I was at 95 and walking away like he was on the brakes. We then pull up to a stop light on a rural 4 lane highway, I'm going straight he turning left, so I go through the intersection and hammer it to 70 in a few seconds, look back and the road is covered up nice in smoke. I wonder how he fells knowing he was picking a fight, if I pick a fight and get it handed to me like that I'll just laugh and say..... dang this is going to be expensive.

Jim

:)

Jim, you outta know by now that bringing a cannon to a knife fight just aint fair..... but it sure is fun to watch... . ;);)

Gotta luv it... .

Bob.

I had a p'stroke pick on me as I was going home last night. I can't do too much because I'm stock. I thought what the hell, I'll play a little and see what happens. It was about a 50mph punch and by the cloud he left I don't think he was stock. It must have been my Megs exhaust tip and no silencer ring that attracted him to me. . I hate it when that happens. I need to start bombing I guess.

:)

Good story Jim.

I had stickered up Dr. Performance truck pick a fight with me on the freeway a few months ago. Same outcome. We weren't even in the same ballpark. He was cool though and gave me a big thumbs up.

Most of the time I kinda feel like it's not worth my time. Not many people are a challenge. Maybe one day we'll cross paths somewhere. Then one of us will have to spend a few more pesos. :)

I just remembered two other races I got into on the street lately.

A guy with a 24 valve auto with an EZ and a straight pipe wanted to race me. :) The funny part was I had a trailer. The trailer was probably only about 4-5,000 lbs, but it had me worried. The guy starts teasing me in town. So I pull it down into manual second at around 25 mph. I lock the converter and wait. I hear him jump into it and I did the same. He never pulled an inch on me. I just walked away from him. Talk about humiliating. Getting passed by a guy with a trailer. :)

The funniest part was, the next day I met him again. I still had the trailer too. I guess he was so imbarrassed about the first time that he wanted another shot at me. This time, I'm minding my own business stopped at a redlight. He pulls up beside me and starts rev'ing his motor. When I look over he's grinning ear to ear and starting to powerbrake. I didn't think I'd be able to beat him out of the hole with the trailer, but I'm not one to back down from a challenge. So I pull her down into four wheel drive and powerbrake the twins up to about 5 psi. I would have gone more, but I didn't want to throw all my tools around in the trailer.

There's lots of traffic stopped at this intersection as witnesses too. Light turns green and I just left him sitting there. I pulled away from him harder than the first day. I'm sure the spectators got a kick out of that one. Some young punk pulls up to the redlight revving his motor, making noise and showing off and then this old work truck PULLING A TRAILER just walks away from him.

You've gotta love those DTT 93% converters. I never even used lockup.

So come on down, Jim. But I'll take the trailer off for you. hehe.

Think I'll stay away from you 4x4 guys at a stop as I'll get smoked, haven't started addressing that issue yet but it will come to light soon as the track is opening next month late.

Jim

Chris said this: "So I pull it down into manual second at around 25 mph. I lock the converter and wait. "

Then Chris said this: "You've gotta love those DTT 93% converters. I never even used lockup. "

Just an observation.

Matt - I can't wait for my DTT 93%..... only a matter of weeks now... .

I read that too, I think he was referring to the second race. I rode in Kat's truck and there isn't much difference in lock and unlock, more so in my case, especially now that I'm allot higher in power than I was when James built it, I was maybe 250 then.

Jim

Okay, so it wasn't just me that was mystified... .

I can't wait to get my 93% installed... . along with all the other transmission upgrades.

Matt

dang this is going to be expensive.

I heard that Jim!!! I get so sick of people saying powerstroke that and you need banks. Now I just say, "Hey man I will give you $1000 dollars if you can beat me. " And if a powerstroke ever does beat me... . oh lord!!! The ole trucks is gettin nitrous, propane, and twins!!!!

oh and hey Jim those old powerjoke and duraduds are on like on a different level now... . a lower one!!! We gotta go after those vettes, vipers, and NSXs!!!!! Hell, I want a challenge!!

Sorry guys for the confusing post. I'll try to write more clearly next time to keep people from giving me the sarcastic

I can see that Jim knows how to read because he understood.

I locked the converter during the first race because I wasn't sure about racing with the trailer and I thought I might need every little ounce of power. I also knew I wouldn't be shifting.

During the second race I never let it lock because I never needed to.

Nit picky people looking for holes in people's posts are really annoying. I was just trying to share a funny experience that some people I'm sure enjoyed reading. Thanks for taking the fun out of a racing story, Matt.

I remember a certian Dodge 5 speed dually in San Antiono on the freeway that wanted to play. He had a Comp, and I had one too, but without that little pump wire. Funny thing is that he never did pull away all the way up to 120. :D

Andrew

Andrew. :)

I remember something like that too. :)

The high rpm defueling of the standard version of the comp box really showed itself in that race.

That guy is switching to a drag comp/supermentals to avoid that situation again. All because of you. :)

Thanks for the race and the memories.

Chris,

Glad I could be of service. ;)

Matty,

I don't see anything wrong with Chris' post, I know he is just grinning like I was. ;)

It's a Texas thang, you wouldn't understand!! :p

street racin'

Latest victims of my street racing.....

:-laf Actually had some poor kid in a ricer try and get frisky with us Saturday Night

Couple of weeks before that a ford Crown Vic was ridin' my tail at night, so I dusted him off with a total soot cloud, he didn't catch me until I backed back out of it to 80... ... I laughed my butt off until he turned on the red and blue lights on the roof

How much $$ and swallowed pride did that cost? :-laf

Here is how it went... ...

Officer - Can I see your license and registration please...

Dan - Yes sir, right here..... Man I have never had the throttle stick like that before. I'm glad we were on a long straight road...

Officer - Son, I was born at night... . , but not last night.

Dan - But Sir, I saw you come up behind me. Why would I take off like that?? I was trying to speed up slightly to better keep up with traffic.

Don't now if this is what happened, but it is what I would have said
