Hey you guys, I am in the market for a 2018 2500 or 3500 with the G56 transmission. I use a 10,000 lb Warn winch in the bed of my current truck anchored to the 5th wheel hardware. If I find a truck with a gooseneck hitch or have to add one to it is it stout enough to anchor this winch? I use it to lift logs onto an A frame log trailer and really dont know anything about the gooseneck system. Thanks all
Steve

I'm assuming you are using the 5th wheel bed rails to mount your winch?
The GN should be fine structurally. I would question how will you keep it off the sheet metal being it is mounted flush.

Most goosenecks are at 25k or 30k tow rating with 6500 or 7500 lb tongue weight (respectively)

Thank you, That is good to know. If I dont buy a truck with a gooseneck or 5th wheel hardware I would probably buy a gooseneck and install it. It doesn;t look too hard to do.

I am currently using the 2 5/16" hole in the bed with a large piece of steel plate (3/8"), same hole in it with a solid round bar that drops through both to hold it in place. There are also two lugs in the bottom of it that set down into the 2 front rectangular holes. There is a receiver welded to the steel plate and the winch slides into that. I hope thats clear enough, it has worked well as the winch can swing a bit left and right. I'm thinking a removeable GN might eliminate that huge piece of steel, just rig a piece of chain or cable around it and pop it out when not in use...

Do you have any pics of previous setups?? I'm assuming you have some sort of 'gin pole' type assembly on the trailer???

I hope these make sense to you. I think with a GN I can eliminate the big triangular piece and the pin. They are heavy.

Why couldn’t you get one of these gooseneck coupler heads, weld it to your winch mount, and just put your winch mount on the gooseneck ball?

Was rolling back into Corpus Christi one afternoon at the height of the fracking boom. Is the GN mount strong?

In the other direction of IH-37 was a GN flatbed trailer running 70-mph. By itself. Was passing the Ram had been pulling it.

Hitch upright sticking up from bed.

Yup, purty strong.
