I’ve been unable to remove the cap . At my last filter change I oiled the O ring but not the threads. Any idea on how to get it off.

I have been using a 28mm 6 point with the extensions. Was also using a large fork bar set at 140 filbs. It broke a 1/2 inch universal joint.

Have the dealer change your filter, this should be easier than you trying to change the filter.
Just a suggestion!

Did you try it while the motor compartment was really warm, as in just parked after a good run on the road?

Get a wobble end extension to get the offset as close and you can to the cap.

Yes I did try after a drive and still no luck. Even trying a small impact driver. Can’t wait to see what this is going to cost just to remove a cap.

I would go the dealer route.... if you crack the case u will be SOL... I would replace the plastic cap with the aluminum billet cap from Geno's... very happy with mine

All I can say is I have changed mine every 15k over 165k between two 6.7's and never had an issue removing my cap, yes first time was hard but doable.

Bummer you are having trouble!

I agree, I’ll be calling a Cummins dealer on monday
I would not tell the dealer that you are having trouble removing the filter cap. Just say you need a fuel filter change and when can I get in.

Grow an extra two hands and put a strap wrench around the cap and turn the 28mm socket and the strap wrench at the same time. Four hand gymnastics will be required however!

RAM dealer rounded out the nut on mine. Went and bought an aluminum cap that had defective threads and would not tighten on all the way. Returned it to retailer. I think it may be best to stay OEM with the Plastic cap.

Really? Defective threads... sorry to hear of that... u can always replace it later...( I got mine from Geno's, no problems at all)... the Mopar original is final as long as u use the 28mm socket...

I just bought Geno's OEM plastic cap. Already have their socket.

I agree 28mm. Sure 1-1/8 will work, but why not get as tight a fit on that as possible. Don't give that cap any chance to strip out . You may get away with 1-1/8 ,but why take the chance .
