I ran out of fuel the other day, no problem, I've got 5 gallons on the trailer. I put it in and then went to prime the lift pump by hand. The plunger went down and stuck. After I got the truck started by cranking it the plunger felt ok. I just recently replaced the lift pump after the old one (170000) was weak. I was pulling a faily heavy trailer when I ran out anf it pushed me along for a bit before I pulled off. My worry is that the pump ran dry for a minute and could have scored the bore or smoked the seals. Any ideas?

I think if the cam is at the correct position, the plunger can go to the max and possibly stick. If that would happen again, I would give it a quick crank to move the crank slightly, and the plunger shouldnt travel as far. As for the pump being damaged, the plunger return spring may be weak, depends on who built the pump and what quality springs were used. .

good luck
