My dealer says they have to change the pinion gear to recolo my speedo... I said all they have to do is punch in a few numbers on the scan tool to 601 revs per mile... they seem to disagree:confused: . Plus they want 80 dollars from me. ANyone have any ideas?

Nick

That is really funny. The dealer is full of it. I would ask him how the pinion gear is going to match up to the ring gear if he changes it.

Are you sure he said "pinion gear", and not "pinion factor"? That's the name of the parameter in the PCM that controls the speedo reading.

As far as the $80 goes, well... you don't expect them to do it for free, right? Maybe their policy is 1 hour shop time minimum. I agree it might be a little excessive for a 5 minute job, but they're the ones with the $4,000 computer.

Have you checked other dealerships?

I am SURE he said "pinion gear" I looked at him like he had 6 eyes and said " i am pretty sure your wrong". He was one of those guys at the service desk who took down all the names of customers and gave them there keys when there cars were done. . AKA MORON... I am going to another dealer today. . I understand the hour charge, those damn tools are very expensive.

Nick

I believe in only dealing with the cheif tech or going and talking to one of the head techs myself. Just find the one that is not in a suit.

most shops are atleast 1/2 hour min. I would say if you had their overhead you would not have a problem charging it yourself.
