I have my 93 up for sale, although I am not trying very hard locally to sell it. I showed it to a guy the other day. I tried to explain the things I have done to the truck to make it run better, stronger. I have a head on the truck that is over kill for the HP and boost I run in the thing. I have it set up to tow my 5 er... and am running 28 pounds of boost. The EGT is safe, when pulling hard in 3rd or 4th gear. I am happy with how its set up. If I didn't tow with it I could squeeze more out of it.

That said the truck is very clean, body very sound and it all is in good running order. It does have 220K on the clock. I am selling it because I can't haul the family in it without making the wife ride in the back. The truck market has really taken a dive, which is no news to you guys. But, I still see the value of the machine. I don't want to give it away.

The guy looking at it gave me a low ball of 4000. I didn't take his offer. He is a local rancher and is well versed in crying poor. His brother assured me that the guy has money. As I see it the parts are worth more than that.

Axles $1500

Engine, transmission and T-case $3500-4000

The Body to one of you rust belt guys $500

This rant is more of a lament than a question. I don't need two trucks. I can't justify it. I am not like Scott..... one for summer and one for winter. :-laf

I know the worth is what someone is willing to pay for it.

I am just whining...

Well then, stop your whining!!:-laf It appears you answered your own question in the middle of the qoute above. That being said, if you part it out how much for the grille... if its an actual "DODGE" grille?

That is exactly why I sold mine. If I went thru it and made everything new I would have invested so much I'd have to die in it.

Sometmes you have to just stop the bleeding.

The problem is a vehicle in running condition assumes the above servicable. What you invested makes NO difference in value per "the book".

MM, I have a DODGE grill in the barn waiting to be put on. I bought it on the last run a few years ago.

Jay, I know I could have 20,000 invested and the truck is still not worth it. What I was complaining about is that if I tried to find, in a junkyard, all the running gear I think I would have about 4000 invested.

Here is a pix, LBartlett. I couldn't get them into the PM.

Jeez Dave! If I knew it was that nice, I'd have traded trucks with you! I coulda drove your new one out, and drove the old one back. ;)

:-laf:-laf:-laf

Dave,

I feel your pain. A few months ago a guy offered me $4K for my '92 (only 2WD but it's very very clean). I told him "I will drive it off a cliff first before you get it for that price. "

He then apologized for low balling me. I am so glad I didn't sell the old girl and now it's not so painful to drive it with the lower fuel prices.

Maybe somebody should buy mine now though so I could buy yours. 4WD & a 5 speed would be nice ;)

Good Luck!

Paul

I had guys interested in my W250 auto last spring for $5500, but the market has taken a dive since then. I'm having trouble dumping a 1/2ton for a grand.

Most people see a 15-20 year old truck, not a classic that started the diesel HP wars. I still dont see why it wouldnt be worth $48-5000.

Farmers and ranchers ARE experts at crying poor/ broke. It's just the nature of things.

why don't you put it in the classifieds here and at a few other 1st gen dodge forums? a five speed W250 ext cab is a great truck. AND White is a very accepted color compared to some of the color combos that came on these. I always have people asking me if I want to sell mine. . My Bro-in-law flew up to WA from So Cal to get a nice one a couple years ago. his is like brand new..... They are a classic.

Value is all relative.

I sold mine for $2k. Sold in less than a week, and both the buyer and I went away happy.

Timing was important to me. I needed the space.

Everyone has their own priorities.

That would have worked Pete. Wish we had talked more along those lines.

I guess what I am getting at, with this post is that I see the "value" of the truck. Yes its relative. I was in a dealership last winter. They offered 1500 on trade. I was red in the face when I left... .

could've been worse. back in 95 my dad was looking to trade his 82 D350 reg cab drw on something newer. went to the local dodge dealer to deal on a 93 D350. it had low miles, xcab, drw, ctd, auto. they looked out the window at his 82 and told him they didnt need that on the lot.

he walked out. went to another dealer and bought a brand new 95 1500 xcab. they gave him $3k on trade.

I was offered 3-4k from a dealership once when I was looking at newer trucks. I had told them I wasn't selling and thats when he came back out with that number. I think some of the shrewder managers don't see these old beasts as an eyesore in their lot, but more as a testement to the lifespan of these things. Don't be surprised to see it posted in the local auto buyer magizines. It gets people interested and gets them there right where the salesmen can give someone a push toward that brand new diesel.

. . or at the same time, someone who cant get financed for a new one can still have a 4x4 diesel for a fraction of the cost of new.

Right now, trying to sell a used truck is hard, if it's a gasser or diesel. Doesn't matter. The first thing people think is "gas hog!" when they see a full size pickup.

Never mind that my 1990, turns 20 mpg, and my 1995, which I just put up for sale, gets 22 mpg on the open highway.

My neighbor has a 2001 Ram 1500, with the 5. 9 gas engine. He's been on the market for 7 months, and finally had someone look at it last night. I wasn't home, but my wife said he stopped by and asked to take the "For Sale" sign off my 2500 just so the buyer wouldn't be distracted. I'm looking forward to seeing him again, I get to rib him about this one!

I'm not trying to hard to sell my 2500. I figure if it goes a month, or even 3 or 4 months, I'm not too worried about it. When guys get their tax return money back, they'll be looking for truck, and then it's time to really push for a sell. I figure by March 1, I must be pushing it harder.

I wasn't really expecting to buy a new truck this past weekend. I've always bought used. It's just the price gap between used and new wasn't as frightening, and when you finance, you get a much better rate on a new truck.

Dave, I just threw that out as a joke. I never thought of doing something like that at the time! Now I'm bummed, I coulda had a nice x-cab truck for a reasonable price. :{ Ahh well! ;)

Hell, mines all beat up and rusty, has almost 300,000, the tailgate is welded on my hangers are rotton, the pass. window only goes halfway, just look at the pics it's no beuty queen. I could probably get no more than 4K with everything, probably 2K or less from a dealer but I wouldn't sell it for less than 10K, I know the truck isn't worth it but it is to me, I'd only trade it for a 03-05 4door short box, and we all know that will never happen. It's a cummins I've always figured you look at what gassers of the same year and condition go for and add $3500. I've seen some nice 1st gens ( not perfect) go for $10,000

Dave,

I've seen several over the years going for over $10,000. 00 myself. As I'm sure someone already said it, it's value is negotiable, and finally (hopefully) agreed upon to both the buyer and seller. That said, the parts you mentioned would certainly fetch that kind of cash and to have them all working and all in the places they belong should be an asset.

I have had a few offers for mine locally as well but thought I'd give the forum guys here a crack at mine as well.

Good luck... and no, it's not whining.

John
