I purchased one of the few remaining harnesses and installed it in about 1. 5 hours. I had previously installed Sylvainia Brightstar blulbs. When I turned on the headlights and took it for a spin around the block as I pulled back up to the house both L and R headlights blew filiments. I put the stock bulbs back in and low and behold I finally have brighter lights than my 02 Rendezvou. It is finaly a pleasure to drive my truck at night. Pulled the Fog light relay put in the jumper and now have Fogs with high or low beams. Now I am going to wire the low beam relay into my Ignition circut so my low beams will be on all the time when the key is on. Two reasons for this #1 New Calif law requires headlights on when visibility is below 1000 feet. #2 With low beams on all the time when high beam switch is placed in the on position I will still have low beams on. This seems to equal blinding lights. Anyone see a problem with this idea?

I didn't want to waste a headlight switch, so I ordered the Summit Harness. Its on back order 8-10 days. :{

I guess everyone got to it before me. :-laf

Anyone know for sure if this will fit a 93. My friend has a 93 and I won't see him till Sunday and would like to tell him to order the harness if it will work. I don't know if he has 9004 bulbs or not yet.

He just had his headlight switch and connector melt down and had them replaced ($200). He wants to fix it for good so it won't happen again.

Thanks,

Dave

Only way to go.

2 hrs to install and only two things to slow me dow.

One: Added a ground wire clamp screw to the driver side up next to the one Dodge has on the Radiator mounting Frame so Summit ground would connect.

Two: Remove the Driver side Battery box because I could push hard enough to get the Light back in it's socker.

Other than this is was pretty easy.

If you are not changing bulbs save yourself allot of time & effort and just pull the connector off the bulb and replace w/ the Summit one. .

Can you still use a bright box with this harness?

I have installed the Summit harness, wasn't to hard. McLaughlin thanks for the pics.

Does anyone have an answer to KSchefflers question. I have a Brite Box and wondering if it is okay to install with the Summit harness.

Dave M, The kit should work on your friend's 93, but it will take some extra work. He will have to get rid of the sealed beams and get a 9004 conversion kit. It is a lense that looks like a sealed beam headlight and mounts in place using the original headlight trim ring. They are commonly used in teenager's rice grinders and can be found at your local crappy part house, ie Autozone, pepboys, ect. Summit might have the light conversion kit too. Then you can put the 9004 bulb of your choice in the conversion kit. He will probably have to modify the wiring harness since the truck does not have a plug for the headlights designed for the 9004 bulb.

if i had a truck with sealed beams id go for some hella H4 replacments they drop right into the sealed beam buckets, you can get whatever wattage bulb you want and the lens throws a super crisp cut off so you can aim them straight instead of in the ditch, usually can be found in the $50 each range i have a pair i am going to turn into auxiliary lights and have fog and driving lights in one package (high/low beam)

If you want your low beams to stay on when you go to high beam, get a 1N4007 diode (or 1N4005 or 1N4006) from Radio Shack and plug it into the unused light socket. You will have to experiment to see which way to turn it. I tested with a test light first to make sure I didn't short to ground. I believe when holding the connector orientated like it installs on the bulb, the diode goes between to 2 left terminals. Just turn your headligts on high beam and when you plug it in, you'll here the low beam relay click and the lights will brighten. This makes for great lighting when out of town in dark areas. I haven't had any problem with overheating and bulb burnout since you are usually moving when you have the high beams on :D .

i think the weak point is the headlight switch for burning out, thats why everyone runs a relay harness to take the load off the switch

What I was referring to as "overheating" was the bulb itself with both low and high filaments on at the same time, along with the increased voltage allowed by the Summit kit.

Summit Bringing back the harness

My son-in-law just ordered a Headlight wiring harness from Summit. It is backordered until April 8th. Summit told him they are getting such a heavy demand for the harness that they are bringing it back into thier parts inventory. I know that once I installed mine there was a big difference in my headlights. In fact I blew the filiments in my Sylvania Brightstars. Now I have the stock bulbs back in and they are wonderfull.

One of my Summit relays quit working after about 2 years and it was a no big deal to get a replacement at a autozone in a local town (I was on vacation at the time). Until I got the replacement I think I used a seldom used relay from the power center under the hood.

The harness is a good product.

I figured it would be just a standard relay. I am going to hook up my low beam relay to a ignition on source under the hood so that my low beams are on all the time since California has the new law about lights on during times of pour visibility. I figured why not just hook it up to a ignition on source that way they are on no matter what and also they will be on with my high beams when I turn them on. This sounds like a good idea to me.

Problems w/ the Summit harness maybe?

Switched relays. no difference. Just happened. Top Picture: low beams on. Bottom picture: High beams on. I can't be just a bad bulb, could it? Headlight switch a year old.

Probably some corrosion on the relay connectors. At least that was the problem I had (similar to yours). Took everything apart, cleaned with electronic cleaner and reassembled with dielectric grease, and haven't had an issue since.

Bill...

I have seen a set of headlights burn out like yours are,so to answer your question,it could be bad bulbs. It never hurts to check them before you go tearing into the wiring again... ... ... Andy

I should have greased the bulb body....

Either my bulbs are a few thou oversize, or the socket in the summit kit is a little undersize but I couldn't get the bulb out of the socket. The more I pryed, the more the Summit (Chinese) socket fell apart. I even heated it up w/ a hair dryer. Ended up using a Dremel Tool to cut the body of the bulb in ½ to get it out. All in 20° temps.

I am getting a new harness from SUV lighting.

Didn't even get 2 years out of these PIAA bulbs.
