I am just wondering what everyone things of Sun Coast converters and vb's

I know alot of the guys on here are big on DTT but I figured it can't hurt to ask for opinions on other brands as well.

thanks.

Bill

Mine is great. I had the install done at Suncoast, and they went above and beyond. Woke my truck up.

I am just a paying customer, not affiliated with Suncoast in any way. :) :)

Sun Coast converter

I had the suncoast in my 98 and it worked fine. They put it in at their shop in Ft Walton Beach.

What I didn't like was the hard shifts. It was not much fun to drive and I was always scared that it would damage some other componets of the transmission. They told me the transmission would last longer with the high pressures and hard shifts.

I traded the truck when the transmission made some bad noises when pulling my trailer. After spending $3500 dollars in transimission repairs I had had enough.

I now have a Six speed:D :D :D :D

You will love Suncoast,Dunrite, or any of the cheap stock convertors as long as you never ride in any truck with a DTT torque convertor. Not ment to slam anybodys stuff but there is a reason why DTT convertor is +-1000. 00 and the others are +-300. 00 .

I got a change to drive truck tonight that had the Sun Coast tc and vd and it was awsome. I think I may be ordering them up in the next week or two.

McDowra,

where are you getting your prices at?

All of the converters are in the $950-$1000 price range. The only thing I have seen about a converter that was even close to $300 is the core charge.

Either the +-300 on the Suncoast is a mis-print or somebody hasn't got a hot clue on the prices.

I haven't checked thier prices for a while but they used to be a HELL of a lot more than that!

This is a pretty competative business and I doubt that they are that far spread in price.

I am not slammin DTT or Suncoast in any way so do not misread.

I am sure that Dtt is a Top-notch product and will get to try one sooner or later, and If it wasn't for Bill, this transmission probably would have been toasted a long time ago with after market tc #1!

Tc #2 has been flawlees to say the least and is nice and tight the way they should be for my application.

Dtt was not in bussiness when #2 was bought or I would have one of theirs in this truck.

It would have to impress the crap out of me to swictch now. ;) But until I try one I don't know,It may only take a simple test drive to do it and there will be a day.

PS: they only way they could be that far apart is the valve-body charge. Suncoast only used to put in a shift kit,but this might have changed.

Before you invest, talk to Bill K. at DTT and get the very best. His knowledge, products and service are outstanding.

Has anyone out there tried a Dunrite converter then switched to a DTT or Suncoast or Bd or whatever ? Or had one of the others then switch to a Dunrite? The best comparison would be from someone that has used different converters in the same truck with the same power levels and same mods.

I know that the Dunrite uses a milled stator and is much less expensive than the others.

I know that they are not supposed to be as good at fluid coupling as the others. But how much worse are they? I need to get off the fence very soon and decide which to go with.

My truck is stock now and if I do up the HP it will be to around 250HP. That HP increase can be done relatively cheeply with just adding a plate. Adding more power than that and (from what I have learned on this board) things start to get more complicated and expensive.

I like this truck but I do have other things to spend my money on. I know the TC is just part of the whole transmission upgrade but it is a very important one.

So, Anyone out there have any first hand comparisons using Dunrite vs. other more expensive converters especially lower HP trucks? Any input is greatly appreciated... .

Drive them!!

I'm a bit prejudiced, I have the DTT 89% TC, and VB and absolutely love them.

Since this is a big expence, I recommend that you take the effort to find some trucks that you can drive before you spend the money.

It is a lot of work to swap out a TC, [I did my own, with some help] So don't experiment.

I went with the DTT based on so many positive comments about the product and service. I had some of my own concerns, all of which were moot. An excellent product, and incredible customer support.

Since all the TC's cost about the same, [except the ATS TC], I'd certainly drive them all if you can, just to get the one you want to be living with for many miles to come.

The DTT mods make the transmission the way Dodge should be making it. The TC transfers power so effectively, that I can't tell when the TC 'shifts' into lockup unless I'm looking at the tach. The rpm drop is about 125 rpm. The factory rpm drop was about 500 rpm!! Factory lockup felt like a fifth or sixth gear.

My opinions, and experiences, proof is in the driving! Greg L Email me if you want!

I had a dunrite converter it was better then stock but the fluid coupling was still not very efficient. I now have the suncoast t/c v/b this converter is awsome it realy puts the power to the ground. I have driven a truck with BD's x t/c in it and it was also very impressive. I am very happy with this suncoast setup .

Milled Stator

D. Showan,

I have an older BD converter with the milled stator. I am happy with it but I know the new TC's are better. The milled stator loses some efficiency at higher rpm's in fluid coupling.

I would recommend finding the best you can the first time, don't let price affect your decision too much, you might regret it later.

Bill L,

Just read, read and read, and do your homework the trans is lots of $$$$$$$.

Try to test drive as many truck's as you can with as many combos as you can, then make your own decision based on the info you gather.

Had Suncoast Pro-loc tc and vb installed two weeks ago. Have only towed once since then (11000#) but it sure shifts good with a solid feel to it. It doesn't shift too hard or jerk. Just a good solid shift. At this point I'm very satisfied with it but I realize two weeks isn't enough time to really tell. It sure puts the power to the ground though! If it's as reliable as Suncoast claims I'll be a happy camper.
