Turbo 3000 D

I have been looking hard at getting one of the above mentioned transmissions before doing any power modifications. They all appear strong. Does anyone have an opinion on whether any of them clearly stand out? I would like to increase the power to make the truck a really fun ride, but am more concerned about relying on the transmission for a looong time.

my suggestion is to call each company individually. Also look at Goerand Bros. They sell a good transmission, they know there stuff and their converters are rock hard. But the main thing, . . Dave and Bob are excellant "good" people who will treat u right.

I wonder if I can save the board from the next 198 posts... :D

They each have terrible customer service, have unreliable products, and in general do not know their tails from holes in the ground.

Having said that... . :D

They each provide awesome customer service, have very reliable products, and are industry leaders in their knowledge.

They each also recommend K&N, AFE, Delos, and Amsoil... . just kidding

Now let's see what happens :--)

SJRsCUMMINS,

Please excuse the light hearted banter. You asked a reasonable question... but if you do a search on this site, you'll find several weeks worth of reading on the products, and you'll learn all about TDR flame wars at the same time.

well here is my two cents. i have only delt with DTT and the the service has been great just tell Bill what you plan to do with the truck and he can set you up with a good trans. i beat the crap out of my 96 and have broken and have torn up a lot of trans parts and bill has helped me out a lot. make sure you get the steel input shaft and drum. i cant say enough about DTTand the suport from Bill.

hey Bill its ed from south jersey the trans is holding up great!!!!!!!:D

The only way your going to find out what's best for you, after calling each ompany as mentioned above... ... ..... is to find members in your area with the transmission mods you want ans see if they will either give you a ride or let you drive their truck.

Keep in mind, the trucks will appear different if you drive one that is BOMBed to he!! with one type of transmission and one that is stock(if there is such a thing) with another type of transmission.

Personally, I have only driven DTT equiped trucks, several of them actually. So I can only soeak about them. They have great service, and the installer that many in the Eastern parts of the states use is Massdiesel. Scott does a great job.

Good luck wih your decision.

I too need a up-grade but don't yet need the complete unit.

So, this is how I look at it.

This truck needs much better fluid coupling. This fluid coupling will in itself protect the converter clutch. My stock -like a boat in water- set up shows more than 600rpm drop when the con-clutch engages, and this must built serious heat and friction. Only fluid coupling will soften this hit. So I lean strongly to the tightest fluid coupling.

Next is the company reputation.

I am not a democrat so I don't like spin.

As far as I can tell suncoast is a good company and stands behind their product, actually I think all three do.

I do not need to show off by abusing the trans so I can't follow the thinking of shifting locked. SOMETHING has to give and I don't want shafts to break.

The trans also needs the line pressure raised so ask the companies about that.

All of these companies are selling their own products.

So back to the topic.

DTT will talk to you about any quetion you have and explain it for FREE. Bill therefore, contrary to what some say is not stuck on his self. He is just the opposite- stuck on the customer getting the most for his dollar.

DTT-Bills products are a home run for his customers.

Good luck and do the home work first!

Any one of the above with Dave Goerand included on the topic is a hole bunch better than stock, do the home work and make up you own mind, I'm not going to name names here, it's your money.

Got to agree, Unless your a girl or have real weak legs and arms and can't work the clutch or gear shift. :-{} :-laf Comments anyone??? :p :-laf

best choice

I have ATS and have nothing but good to say about the product and their service. It is so good I have almost forgotten I really wanted a manual someday!

As has been stated here many times, and rightly so, all the products mentioned are good - much better than stock. I think the best answer is one Tom McCayhill (I am sure I miss-spelled his name) from Mechanics Illustrated once said many years ago. When asked "what is better, Ford or Chevy?" his response was simply "yes". For those of you who are older, you will likely remember Tom and his articles in Mechanics Illustrated. Very knowledgable, but mixed with humor. Another good one was when asked the best way to rotate tires, he said "start the car, put it in gear and step on the gas - with any luck your tires will rotate! Quite a character he was.

I see what you guys mean - when I looked back at the archives there have been some hot debates. Not too many comparisons using Suncoast, and a lot of true believers in DTT and ATS. I guess they're all really good and its hard to go wrong unless your really cranking up the horsepwoer and drag racing every week. I am just getting into this and it seems too addictive. This is coming from someone who was never really into tinkering with cars and trucks! .

I got my awakening here on the TDR, but I received my real eye opener last year at Scheid's Diesel Extravaganza. WHEW!!!! I would have never imagined what can be done to a diesel :D

I suggest ATS and their Triplelok converter and Transmission.

I run over 400+hp at the wheels and USE it on a regular basis, I also street race on a regular basis.

This system gets the power to the ground and I can Lock-up the Triplelok torque converter at will.

check out www.atsdiesel.com

Call Clint or Don, they are good guys to deal with.

No one has mentioned BD Power. Ya cain't have no transmission war without them. They have been ugrading Dodge diesel trannies as long as anyone. :D

Check my profile... that's what I run... wouldn't have anything else. And when I'm done, will be way over 400+ RWHP, and I haven't even thought about being able to break the dang thing. An input or output shaft is possible, but not likely (yeah right, knock on wood).
