After the installation of my new injectors and turbo, my $6,000. 00 Suncoast blew apart off the line in the rain at 8 pounds of boost???????? Never thought a $6,000. 00 transmission would break at 8 psi and doing 5 mph in the rain. Of course its 19 days out of the first year parts and labor warranty, but thats just my luck. Does anyone know of a reputable transmission company that holds up????

have you called Suncoast? I'm sure they'll be happy to work with you to resolve your problems. especially if you don't drag their name through the mud before you call!

What blew apart? Have you contacted Suncoast? What did they say? Did they do the installation?

Lots of unanswered questions here. I would hope you would answer these questions and tell us what the company said before you come on a public forum blasting them.

Poor form.

What exactly failed?

I hate to say it, but any part will fail given enough stress. Racing is hard on parts.

It may not be a Suncoast issue, but then again, maybe so.

If you must go a different route, I highly recommend DTT.

After an hour of talking to Suncoast prior to my writing the post (for some of you nosy guys who seem to swear facts are blasting a company),they seem to think one of the shafts failed so I can just hope for the best.

SGrasmick:

Sorry to hear about your transmission!

I guess I would add to what has already been said here, that being, to give Joe at "Suncoast" a chance to help you work out the problems.

Personally, I have had excellent service with both the ATS Transmissions in my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve and my 2002 Dodge CTD 24 valve. Like you, I broke two shafts (the outputs) before getting smart :-laf and finally installing billet shafts throughout. IMO,... ... the stock outputs are really weak and it doesn't take much to break them. :(

Good luck and I hope you get your unit fixed soon!

Are the shafts stock or aftermarket?

Many output shafts have been broke at STOCK power levels. Even if they are billet, nothing is going to last forever. Especially if there was an unseen defect or flaw. But, you may never know.

Unfortunately, this could happen with any transmission vendors parts. I hope you get if figured out and go back to being happy with your setup.

As Paul says, "Now-------------the rest of the story" SGrasmick opted not to get billet output nor intermediate shafts when trans was purchased. Did go with billet input. Guess what broke? OUTPUT. $6000. 00 ?? I got shorted. Reputable transmission? I would suggest you check with the final top 5 trucks in Pro-Street @ Indy. Perhaps they might make a recommendation

Post script: 8# launch in rain-guess what happens if tires get a bite while spinning in water? :( If you can't tell the whole story truthfully, IMHO it would be best not to tell any of it. Post like this one endears one to the vender.

Have a nice day

I'm not a Suncoast guy but I do know they make a dang good transmission, shafts are a plus and a very good option. We all ask allot from these transmission's, much more then they were ever built to withstand..... stuff will break.

Sorry to hear about your transmission problems. Even while these trannies are built well, NONE are bullet proof and above failure. Wheel hop, and a host of other things can cause failure. That a warranty at all is offered on a high performance part that by nature of design will wear out anyway I think is outstanding.

You have a very good transmission that will hold up and a very reputable company behind it already installed. I know it doesn't sit well knowing the failure will cost you money, but I don't think you can blame that on Sun Coast.

Darren is running his 2nd year of 10's on the same unit with no failures.

Nothing like someone bashing a vendor for something they brought upon themself. Amazing how some guys "cheap out" on a part and when it breaks, blame an installer for the stock part failing in a performance unit.

I would hate to be in the performance industry. I don't think I could deal with mentally dimished clients all day...

Reading this makes me feel really lucky!! Cause I have well over 50 HARD launches (18-22lbs. boost) on my stock output shaft!! I've been at or over 500HP for close to a year and have done a lot of drag racing and haven't broke it YET! I can expect my turn to be coming I guess - Lavon

We both should feel lucky. :D I have only billet input and because of that I limit what I do with the truck. But just like you, I have a boat load of 12. 80 - 13. 50 runs between 99 and 106 mph. Hopefully the shaft fairy will show up soon enough before parts break. :-laf

IF YOU ARE GOING TO PLAY YOU WILL PAY SOME have more luck then other's dont blame the transmission company if you were to cheap to put in the best parts available .
