DPG, hang in there, Im just getting over what you got now it sounds like, get ready to be down for a good 4 days :{

I thought that this was a private party so I didn't invite myself.

I found out otherwise. (thanks Signal73, I appreciate that)

Soooo, it looks like I won't get a long night's rest tonight. It's gonna be an early rise for me. Hopefully I can find the shop before the party is over!

I don't want to come empty handed, so I will be bearing gifts. ;)

I had a good time today. What a bunch of good, friendly people. I will definitely make another trip one day.

Thanks for the invite!

As for the trip home... ..... :(

My truck quit running on I-84 in Stormville, N. Y. I've been stranded about four hours now. I should be back in PA late tonight. I have to leave the truck in N. Y. for a while. Long story.

I will fill you in when I get back to PA.

Glad to hear that you all had a good time, sorry about your truck. Ofcourse I had to work. :{

Hope to see you all at the next meet.

I also forgot to mention that TQT, is now an uncle. He has a niece. Oo.

Her name is Elizabeth Hope.

10/23/05

8:40am

9 lbs. 9. 8 oz.

20. 5 in. long.

Now he should be called Uncle TQT. :-laf

Hope you all have a great Holiday and see you all in 2006.

O ya can not forget about Mrs TQT. :p

I am whupped! Didn't get much sleep last night. Which would have been just fine if today had kept going nice and smooth. But it didn't. I'm tired. I'm sore from standing/walking/working in the cold all day. First I'll gripe and then I'll give you the twist.

Here goes:

After taking on some fresh diesel, I'm merging with traffic just West of the CT border and I have my foot in it. The Jammers are having a good time with the Blue Chip and they're yellin' through the 5". Life is great.

Theeennn, the truck starts missing. I convince myself that it was a fluke. I see a little bit of smoke now. Power is dropping off. I'm stuck in the slow lane because the truck won't accelerate. And I have to slow down for a rig. I drop it into fourth and hope I can make the hill that I'm climbing.

I end up going some ridiculous speed on the interstate. I crest the hill so I let it coast. I spotted a rest stop and headed for it. The engine died and the steering became tough. I barely made it to a parking spot and then of course the brakes were tough. At least I made it.

I try bleeding off the injectors thinking that maybe the pusher pump hadn't been able to keep up. Everything else checks ok. I hadn't gotten any check engine light. I bring up the codes and try to remember which ones were which. We're dead in the water.

I had a 2004 copy of the TDR Travel Companion in my truck and I try a number. I use half of my quarters to find out that the area code had changed. The other half went to find out that the cell phone # was no longer in service.

I try to call my father in PA. His phone won't accept collect calls. I don't have money for a hotel. No money for a big tow bill. I can't keep my truck at the rest stop. Can you imagine the funk I was in?

More to follow.

So I take a long shot. I call up an alternate number in the companion book.

(a collect call to a total stranger and I don't know if the alternate number is good either) The automated service asks my name, I say "TDR broken down member".

~Hello? (older lady) Hello, I'm a TDR member and I'm stranded. A what?~

So long story short, it was her son that had listed the house number. She would have called him, but he left his cell phone at home. See how my luck is going?

Here's where things changed drastically. Out of the blue she offers to drive over to where he works to see if he's there late. (I find out later that she doesn't get around well) She is going to call me back to let me know the outcome.

A phone call never came. I call collect again on the payphone. The service says that the person won't accept the call. I'm about to get funky again.

On a whim I call back one more time a little later.

HE answers the phone. As soon as he said he's not a TDR member anymore, I thought oooo boy.

I told him my story. From that point on it was all him and his mother. To say that they were friendly and helpful would be a gross understatement.

He called my father and told him where I would be and that i needed a ride. He arranged a wrecker. He payed for the wrecker and told me I could take care of it later. He arranged a secure place to park it. He invited me to his home. They fed me dinner!

You CT boys know how I like to eat. :-laf

He fired up his computer and told me I could log on to the TDR. (that's how I sent that message) I never once even hinted at any of this. They just kept doing and doing. Talk about generous and trusting.

The list goes on. My Christmas present came early this year. It was the gift of kindness. Of compassion.

DTroy!!

Sorry your trip back was such a bummer, but it is nice to see that there are still good folks out there, kinda reminds you that there IS a reason for the season!

Absolutely! I definitely have the Christmas Spirit this year.

When we were parting ways this weekend (I'll see him again when I pick up my truck) was:

"Pay it forward".

Someday, somewhere, I will.

Glad to hear it all worked out... however the wallet is crying now I bet...

I guess this is a wake-up call that the travel companion needs to be addressed and updated almost daily... Oh ToolMan...

It sucked for awhile. I was imitating a frozen popsicle. :( Fortunately I had three sweatshirts in the truck, so I put them all on.

My IRA is going to fund my new Hot Rod VP. I have to upgrade my fuel supply lines and install a higher flow pump than my Carter if it still needs it at that point.

I needed a bigger turbo the way it was. With the Hot Rod I will need even more air. I guess that will be my Christmas present to myself! Oo.

Funny you should mention a valve adjustment. I DO have to do one. I didn't do it when I added the Jammers, it was getting late.

Hmmm, as long as I have the valve cover off... . the head studs are right there... ... ... ... ... . Oh, boy. I'm digging a hole.

Wholly frikkin whack Shiznit batman! Dude I hand it to you. I would have freaked! like this morning when I was driving back roads to work I had a slow arse car in front of me and a dump truck with trailer behind me and some other assorted whtnots behind him. Well I fire on the exh. brake down the hill as the car was going just that speed where you normally would be dragging your brakes.

Soon after that an uphill sweep. Well the brake done stuck on. So with no where to pull over I start up the hill loosing speed and egt's climbing past 1500 QUICKLY  well I could no longer see the truck or road ... or anything behhind me as the soot was so black and thick that I bet it would have shown up on satelite imagry!!

Keep in mind I also have all that snow in the bed too. So here I am leaving an ominus blackout , slowing to my max speed of what 10 mpg foot to the wood against the exhaust brake with no where to pull over #@$%! I dip into a perking lot and let the angry yet cautious commuters pass. I get out and realize ... DAMN my tools are at work so I am cussin and throwing a fit and this guy across the way saunters over asking if all was o. k (I wanted to be a smart *** and say something like "no I normally pull over into randdom parking lots and swear at everything I see kicking my exhaust tip like pele")

But I asked him if he had a channel lock and or hammer handy. He came back and with a mighty whack she released Oo. So I thank him and get in and start to drive away when I had my Dumb *** gain turned up to maximum and hit the e-brake. DANG stuck on again ... . MORON!!!! So I get out to grab a rock or something and juuuust as I get to the exhaust tip It decides to let loose. The whole left side of my pants are now BLACK and I have a guy to interview 5 minutes ago now.

So If I threw a fit at just that ... ... then you my friend are a saint!!

Ok, Why is there a rash of VPs Dying here in CT; Mine, another truck up in Wolcott, and now DTroy's :{ Well, get my truck back tomorrow Oo. DTroy; Hope you get back on the road soon!!! TMTT, Dude; If it binds up, Don't test it until you lube it ;) The E-brake I mean!!! Moose00

I would have liked to see that smoke cloud. :-laf

By the way, it was $162. 00 to tow it just down the road.

Thanks Moose.

I've been walking home. You can't get anywhere near my house during most of the winter without a 4x4. And even though my back-up car is front wheel drive, it still won't get there. Soo, I park at the beginning of the private road and hump it.

When my clothes washer was broken and all that I had was a car, I would have to take my clothes to my father's house to wash. So I had to pull my stuff on a sled down the private road to my car and go from there. Groceries, beer, all by sled.

Hopefully I'll have my truck back before it comes down to that again. :D
