Hey guys, I broke the latch on the sunglass holder door and ordered a new one and when I asked how to remove the old one they looked a deer in the headlights. I guess if they were not going to install it they were not going to tell me. So any ideas.
I replaced mine last year, and I do know you have to take the hole overhead console down.
I know that the console is just held up by a couple of metal clips. (It's been a year so bare with me here. )
Open both the garage door opener door and the sunglass compartment. In the opener compartment you will see to tabs sticking down from the top of the compartment. You have to push those two tabs forward and pull down and back on the console at the same time. It is not easy to do because you really need a nother hand. Once you get the clips to release the console will come down from the roof. You will have to unplug the wire harness to. Once you get it out you will see how the doors come off.
That is the best I can remember. I know the procedure is in the service manual but I don't have mine here at work. So maybe some one else will fill you in on what I missed.
Don't worry it's not really that hard, I think it took me about 30 minutes to replace mine.
You can do it Darrell's way or... ... ... ... ... If you have about 10 sec. you can do it my way. Open the sun glass door, or in your case thats already done, then you'll see the 2 black metal tabs, just lift up one tab and weasel the plastic arm out, the same on the other side, thats it, your done.
I'm on my 3rd one, on in this truck, I'm done buyin' 'em. The one thats on it now is broke to, I just took some tape and applied it on inside of the the latch, and on the outside of the latch. It's not "spring loaded" now, but it can't break anymore either.
If I do decide to buy another one, I have a fix before it break's, just take a small piece of stiff foam, and glue it the "V" of the latch. The problem is that the latch pushes in to far, and doesn't need to, this will solve the issue.
