Glad you are ok bucsfan!!

You folks might think I'm crazy but I would take it in half a second if its complete. If it were me and the insurance company totaled it, I would buy it back and part it out. I would definitely take the engine and trans out of it even if they needed a rebuild.

John, glad that you are ok!

You can get a new truck, but not a new YOU!

Good luck with Progressive, hope EVERYTHING works out for the BEST!!!

Glad your okay, sorry about the truck and boat, im curiuos would a snorkel have helped any in that situation, maybe kept the truck running till you could have driven it out of course depending on the lake bottom near the boat ramp.

Wonder what they would want for it??

I've had the ol' "foot slips off the brake" thing, luckily no big deal. I wonder if you could pull the rubber off the brake pedal and put some of that sticky sandpaper type stuff on like is used for non-slip in an industrial site or on stairs? Maybe take the rubber piece to a tire shop and have them put studs in :-laf . How long was it under?

One time with wet shoes I slipped off the clutch backing up to the 5'er. Luckily I was still a couple of feet away, so no problem. Since then, my clutch pedal has been wrapped in 1" Scotch brand no slip stuff. I wrapped it two loops horizontally and two loops vertically, and it has not come loose yet, but I have some more stored under the back seat. Works well...

The USS Dodge went down at about 5:45 PM, a nice gentleman called a AAA tow truck company, but he didn't show until about 7:15... By the time he got it out, it had been down about 2 hours :(

John

Some said the saw a truck slide in backwards because the parking brake failed. That is one of my biggest worries with mine when I launch my boat. I always shut it off and put it into gear with the brake on. Sorry to hear about your truck, glad everyone is ok.

Honestly,

I wasn't aware that they'd even consider totalling a truck that was immersed in freshwater for a short period of time. We "submarined" several trucks whilst 4 wheeling when I was younger and we simply towed them to the garage and drained all the fluids, let it dry out for several days and refilled everything and drove away. I will admit that they didn't have the electronics that a new truck would have and the water only got as high as the seat (in the worst case), but still.

In addition, we routinely submerge our off road motorcycles during creek crossings, while they're running and everything. We take out the plug and drain the cylinder; remove the air filter and wring it out and make sure there is no water in the exhaust pipe and they typically fire up again and off you go.

Again, these aren't as severe, but I would never have imagined that they'd total off a new truck for such a thing. Saltwater is a different thing altogether.

I agree. I bet if you drained all the fluids and let it dry out for a few days it'd start right up and run fine. Auto trannies don't like being full of water but other than that, most components take it just fine.

Drain it, start it up, change the fluids a few more times and you're good.

The problem is not the fluids. They are easy to change. It is the corosion of the electronics that may not show themselves for weeks or months. Then you would have to go back and argure witht the insurance company. I have seen sensors, radio, gauges, and other stuff go out on a Ford Taurus that was in a flood in Houston. Some of them didn't go out for months and they were very corroded when removed.

Ouuuch. I feel your pain. I remember checking out your truck (still a nice truck) when you were discussing that massive grill guard you have on it. Focus on the positives, at least you're not dead and you'll be alive to get another truck.

I understand that the electronics are the issue, but as long as the device isn't used until the water dried up it wouldn't be a big deal. All I'm saying is that for the cost of the entire truck, I would have thought that draining and refilling all fluids (several times if necessary) and storing the vehicle in a shop heated to 90 degrees with fans blowing around for a week or two and it'd probably be fine.

The insurance co would be better off warrantying the electronic components for six months or something.

I'm sure that in today's litiguous society, the insurance companies are simply limiting thier liability in the event of an air bag failure, antilock brake failure, etc. etc.

All I'm saying is that its a shame, because with a little work and a few precautions, the truck is probably just fine.

Oh well, If my insurance company was going to replace the truck, I guess I'd let them too.

I am supposed to recieve a call from the adjuster by 10AM tomorrow. Do you think it will be totalled, or can they dry/replace everything? As much as I love my truck, I don't think I could depend on it water damage and then repairing. What do you think?

John :(

Did you get your call from the insurance company?

Sorry for your loss. :(

I'm glad that your ok.

I met with an adjuster from Progressive today. They are not going to cover any of the aftermarket accessories (about $8000 worth), including the bumpers. They are treating the RanchHands like stock, as in they do not add any value to the vehicle, therefore, I will not be compensated for them... . Here is the best part, if I take the RanchHands off, then they are going to DEDUCT $1100 off the price of the truck because it will not have any bumpers (I don't have the stock ones).

I have Gap insurance, so what I might do is take the bumpers and anything else I can anyway, and let the Gap Insurance kick in to pay off the loan. Do you think that will work?

THIS SUCKS :{

John, could you go to a salvage yard & get the stock bumpers & throw them in the box (After you take your Ranch Hands off) and call it good?? Just a thaught... ... Good luck, you need it!
