Letter to President Bush

With all of the discussion over Janet Jackson, etc. (differing moral/concerns) I have not seen any discussion over Kid Rock wearing an American flag as PONCHO (hole cut in middle of flag for his head to go through).

I was wondering what this crowd thinks of that??

Patriotic or wrong??? You can see flag colors, imatations, in lots of clothing styles, but this appeared to be an actual flag?

I was more upset with that than Janet Jackson's escapade (show business crap), but in my case with the flag, it goes back to feelings from the 60's and some of the way the flag was treated then!!!!!

I did not think much of the entire half time show, but have always preferred the game anyway, and from a different generation that the half time appeared to be trying to reach??

What do you think?

Well, I am pretty sure Kid Rock intended no disrespect, he seems to be one of those "proud to be american" famous persons, unlike Alec Baldwin, Barbara Streisand, Rosie o'donnel etc

Janet's boob = who cares?!!!! It was only a semi-bare boob...

Why didn't the FCC investigate Joe Namath when he was a drunken bumbling idiot on live TV?

Sure the Super Bowl had 85 million people watching... and probably more little kids than when Joe acted like a moron... but it was just a boob... nothing more.

If this was English television... . we'd hear swearwords and see boobs all the time. People aren't all uptight about that stuff over there... . I don't see/hear about mass hysteria because their television programming has cuss words and boobs.

The FCC is a joke. They should be spending their time/money investigating stuff that matters... . not this stuff.

I don't believe the question is that of the bared breast. It has to do with the rights/ feelings of those who were offended. We have all heard that if you don't like what you see then turn the channel. There was neither opportunity nor disclaimer for those to look away. This was wrong in my opinion.

Otherwise, I have to agree with will24 about KR at least putting up the pretense of being a patriotic American. The "right" to desecrate the flag is supposedly guaranteed, and in this case it seems that is was tattered in good intent if there is such a thing.

If people are getting their feelings hurt by seeing a bare boob... then I'd hate to think what else they are offended by.

Life is WAY too short to be upset over things like this...

Maybe it didn't bother you or me, but life is about other people besides you and me. I imagine lots of families, or at least fathers with their young sons, sat down to watch the Super Bowl together. Maybe some of these families still have traditional religious values and don't particularly want their 10 year old kids watching nudity on TV.

If they had announced that Janet would be baring all (or at least some) at halftime, these individuals would have had an opportunity to turn to something else. Since they didn't, these families became an unwilling audience. Sorry, but that's not right, at least under our FCC rules and guidelines.

That is more what I was looking for, thoughts about the wearing of the flag and the way it was done?? Presumably his costume was reviewed in rehearsals etc. and the NFL was aware and approved??

Like I said, I do not know much about Kid Rock, other than seeing him in some commercials, and hearing about his involvement with Pam Anderson on some some 'entertainment' ?? type shows.

Everybody has their own standards, but wearing the flag that way is not something I think is correct, but was trying to get the groups thoughts on that.

To me the 'boob' issue was commented on best by David Letterman "... now he isn't the only BOOB on CBS TV... " I think that was funny, self deprecating, BUT what do I know?

I am a fan of some of Kid Rock's music but I don't care too much for the song he performed. The flag thing could have been done more tastefully but I was not offended by it. He should have gone out and had had someone buy him an American Flag T-shirt or do like Bono did last year and wear a flag lined jacket and flash it to the crowd.

I missed the boob thing (Thank God!) because when Justin Timberlake came out I was bored with the whole show and can't stand him so I changed the channel. My 5 and 8 year old boys were there with me and I am glad they did not see her ugly boob. It is a matter of morals and taste. If they rated the half time show PG-13 or R I would have changed the channel as soon as the guys stopped playing football at half time. The whole half time show was pretty lousy in my opinion and Janet and Justin were the icing on the cake.

It may have been in bad taste, but I'm sure he meant no disrespect. After all, he was one of the entertainers that traveled all over Afgahnastan and Iraq entertaining troops... .
