 :( :( I can't believe this. 20 minutes after my surgery was supposed to start my surgeon came in to tell me that my hemoglobin count was too low to do the surgery. I had already been given the pre-op sedative so was kind of out of it at the time and I've slept the rest of the afternoon. I have to go see my personal physician tomorrow and then probably a GI specialist. Once they figure this out then I've got to wait for the hemoglobin count to climb back up and THEN schedule the surgery again. They've taken me off the medicine they had me on (because they think that could have contributed) and put me on a different pain killer that thus far doesn't seem to be working at all :( . I had everything in me to get to this point and now I'm shattered. I'm in so much pain I can hardly function and now it's going to be a minimum of 3 weeks more of this :( . Not sure how I'm going to get through it. Sorry to dump on you guys.

You'll get through it! Hey, you've come this far, what's another few weeks? For inspiration, try reading Lawrence Taylors book. It's supposed to be good.

Besides, you've got all 20000 members of the TDR behind you. :)

Dump all you want Steve. What a bummer. Hang in there, get as comfortable as you can, don't move and stick it out. I'll bet riding back and forth in the car is killing you, I know it sucked when my back was bad.

Doc

PS - I would have done the surgery for you even if you didn't have a hemoglobin count. What's the matter with doctors these day, are they afraid of getting sued? :)

I too would have performed the surgery for you, regardless of your hemoglobin count, blood count, pulse, or respiration. Of course, I'm not a doctor, so there's always the chance I'd screw up more than I fix.

I'll do it for 1/2 the price, and give you a 25% rebate.

I'll even give you a 30-day money back guraentee. You live for 30 days, and I'll give you your money back,, guarenteed.

No Beer, or Booze!

Hey Steve, I was hoping to hear that you were in recovery by now and doing fine. what a bummer!! But hang in there, focus on the future, and lean on and dump on us all you want.

And as for all these reduced-price offers, don't forget I offered to do the surgery for FREE just two weeks ago!! After all what are friends for?? LOL

Hang in there, you'll get through it, we're all rooting for ya.

Bummer, man, I was hoping you'd get it over with... . Just tell 'em I said to leave you enough neck to tie a knot in your necktie on those rare occasions you gotta wear a suit... :D

In your corner here, bud..... I've seen you survive tougher crap than this, some before we ever met.

dl5 - cortozone wouldn't help at all. It's pressure on the nerves and spine from a severely herniated disc that is causing the pain. I'm calling the doctor back in the morning and going to get a prescription for narcotic pain killers which was his original suggestion. I wanted to avoid them if possible, but I can't live with this pain any longer. Booze isn't an option for me but I appreciate the thoughts. Can't sleep tonight again because of the pain. Thanks for the well wishes guys. BTW, I think I'll stick with the surgeon rather than you hacks! :p

Steve , A fifth of Jack Daniels would do the trick, at least till you woke up and then your head would hurt/pound. Seriously, watch out you don't get addicted to the pain killers, as you may end up in a rubber room trying to get off them. Hope they can get you in sooner for the surgery. We are all thinking about you.

Well, spent the day running from doctor to lab to doctor. They have me on Vicodin now and the pain is tolerable now. I'm in a much better space today than I was yesterday morning. They've got me taking iron supplements along with vitamin C and I'm going to have another blood workup done on the 15th or the 16th. If my numbers aren't up enough for the surgery then they are going to transfuse. The surgery is now scheduled for the 19th. So I have two weeks to wait and I can live with that. At first the nurse was trying to schedule it for the 7th of January and I went off on her. At least the pain is tolerable now and I've got the date.

Got the date now? With the nurse? The Date? Wow, you work fast, there Steve. J/K Hang in there man, we are all pulling for you. Get a big fat deer tenderloin steak. That'll get the blood count up. Worked for my pregnant sister in law. She used to come over every time we had deer steaks, said her doctor told her it was good for her blood count.

Steve,

i'm not a doctor, i just play one on tv... ... ... .

what kind of operation was it?

i've had 2 neck operations. both successful. titanium plates, screws, my hip bone in between the vertebrae. if this is what you're going thru, then i can relate. stick it out and you will feel like a million bucks !

i would have sucked on as much anithesia as i could have before they wheeled me out.

good luck and keep posting.....

did you hear that bill fleming left the organization??
