First sorry to hear some of you guys are having a problem with your Quad boxes. Mine (140 Hp race quad box) has run flawless, great power and some mpg. s gains. I have run mine on all settings with no surge issues. Hope you guys have better luck. coobie :)

Quad - I got the new harness today - thanks for the quick turn around.

I just started to swap them out and noticed that the two harness' have a different part number. The one I had is part#20-5029-1 (This is on the tag by the plug that goes to the box). The new one has part#20-5029-2.

Any significance there? Being that its 10:30 your time right now, I doubt if I'll hear back tonight, so I'm stickin' it on and see if it fires up. Gotta get at least one drive to work and back in before I take off camping..... REALLY want to try the box pulling my 5'er over the pass!

ps (on edit). Coobie..... thanks again for reiterating your experiences.

The differences in the new and old part number is preparation for something new that will be here soon. The old part numbers will work also, but the new one is just slightly revised.

We test harnesses and boards like crazy once they are tested. I have no idea why some harnesses still have issues? Overall it is not many, but I wished it was none! We have almost no boards fail. I think 1 or 2? The rest have been stupid wiring issues?

Let me know what happens, I would love to see you get to use it over the long weekend.

I just got my Quad race box a week or so ago and didnt have any issues with it power very smooth---------I switched from the power pup-----------but I have noticed as well the surge issue when the cruise is on------mine isnt as bad as others maybe 4# swing on the boost gauge. The rpm's are dead on and do not move at all but after coming from the power pup and they were bad for the surging I figured this kind of went with the territory. I havent had any codes set and truck runs really well.

The surge is not normal. What we are finding is that the larger the database is the more these trucks respond differently. If you can call us or email us we want to know this stuff so we can fix it. If we don't know about a surge we cannot change anything.

Please tell us when it does it, how much it does it and anything else you think can help us change it.

Quad

18 miles so far and all is well. Ran it on cruise at several different speeds and switched between levels 2 and 3 and no surge so far. Got my hopes waaaaay up! Oo.

Just an observation here. I've read on a couple other threads that guys running other brands of boxes might be experiencing the same gremlins. I dont know how "open" the communication lines are between manufactures, but a few phone calls might reveal some trends here Quad. You may not be able to solve it, but it might make everyone sleep better to know your not the only ones experiencing this.

hmmmm..... sounds like I'm all set up now for that "new thing"... ... . SWEEEEET!

I'm ready for a "new thing" too! I'm guessing it's a monitor or lit switch.

Not looking to upgrade from the Xzillaraider, mind you, unless it's the transmission breaking, part crushing box rumored to be coming down the pike from Quad. Too many stories lately about the TST and the new programming having problems with early HPCR's.

I will take truck out again and put cruise on and go for a extended ride and report what it is doing-----------When it did it before I had it on the 100 setting. I have not taken connectors apart and put back because truck runs fine but I will let you know what my results are later.

JIM

My box and harness and switch is coming out and going to Quad to check it out and see what we see. Should be calling you today with a tracking number.

The turnaround on these guys is great. Really good cust service, and on it to help out in the rare event of a problem. I haven't heard of many problems at all, and thats says alot. Good job Quad!

JThiessen & Hokey,

What setting did you have the trouble on? My 140 just showed today and I would like to test out the same setting for a while.

When it started it was in the low setting 60hp on the race version.

Surge update,

Went on a little trip to pick up a toy hauler about 70 miles away Thursday. Basically all flat ground at 75 mph. With the truck cruise set, it has a slight surge to it in all settings. (60hp, 100hp, 130hp) Back the speed down to around 65 mph in all settings and the surge seems to go away or at least I can't feel anything. Set the knob to stock while running at any speed with the cruise set and it is totally smooth at all speeds. Hooked up the toy hauler and set the cruise at 60 mph for awhile and 65 mph in the 60 hp and 100 hp mode and could not feel the surge. I did not try the 130 hp mode. I read on here somewhere about a magical 2000 rpm area when an injector or something like that drops out, could this be an issue? When at 75 mph the truck in taching 2100 rpm. When at 65 it's about 1800 rpm. No codes ever and truck runs very well when not on cruise with the box on.

I sent Quad a email today concerning the surging with my truck and it is almost identical as RLB except mine is a 03 and my test was done empty. All three settings did it and my boost would go from 7 to 9 or 7 to 10 with the cruise set at 75 to 80.

Again my truck runs great with the box with no codes and power is very smooth.

Just got back from the camping trip last night. I towed my 9500lb 5'er from sea level, over Washington Pass (elev. @4500ft) and down to @2500 feet. The grade going there is a long slow climb to the peak, then a steep descent down to 2500. So I started out on level 2 (30) until I got into the bigger hills and could see that EGTs were only running about 1000, flat to the floor at times (I think I bounced up to 1100 once). So I turned it to level 3 to see what it would do. For most grades, it was fine - held EGTs under 1100 for the most part, except in certain areas I peaked at 1200 before backing off. Going east there are some very long grades - probably up to 5 miles or so - and on level 3 I couldnt keep the EGT's down enough for a long hard pull. So I switched it back to 2, and it would run 1100 most of the way up the long grades.

Coming back, up the steep part, I didnt even think about level 3. I had to baby it a little after easing off around the corners, otherwise I would have been baking it. I passed ALL of the other trailers going up the mountain, a guy in a newer Dodge gave me a thumbs up as I passed him (he had just gone by a Durasmack pulling a trailer just like mine).

My impression of the box for towing is that it comes on smooth enough, we shouldn't have to worry much about the trannies. I did feel my limited slip slipping for the first time. But that may have more to do with my recent fluid change to Amsoil. EGT's are easy enough to maintain, even on level 3 to an extent. If you dont have to be the first guy over the mountain, then you really dont have anything to worry about. Me, for some reason, the monster comes out and I try to go as fast as my brakes will allow.

No more surge, codes are gone. Runs like a champ. :D

Thumbs Up Quadzilla

I have been looking around for a box for a few weeks now having a hard time deciding between them but have narrowed it down to Xzilla, Power Pup, and TST.

The bumpf at TST sounds very convincing and they are very honest about the impact of pumping up power to the levels they generate. They give a lot of good information on their site and if I were going for the serious bomb, that would be it. I like that they are are not boosting rail pressure (or say they aren't) or reflashing the ECU BUT, it's way more box than I need. (I know, that's the whole point but... )

Power Pup has had a lot of good reviews and I like the fact that it retains stock and provides DTCs. Not very keen very keen on it reflashing the ECU or boosting rail pressure BUT love the fact that it comes with the Outlook Monitor that will defuel, monitor EGTs etc.

Xzillaraider has gotten very high marks and I am genuinely impressed that the guys who make it are prepared to stand by it on this board - not something one sees very often. Not keen on boosting rail pressure BUT like that it retains stock as an option and isn't reflashing the ECU (right???). What it really wants and would make me get off the fence is a monitor like the Bullydog Outlook Monitor from Quad. I know the Outlook is allegedly compatible with ANY programmer/chip but I would prefer one made by the same people who made the programmer/chip. Anyway - a plea to Quadzilla for a similar monitor. ;)

Go with the Quad

They are working on the monitor. They haven't mentioned anything on when it will be out, but I hope to be a beta tester for that also. Right now I am using the Bully Dog Outlook monitor with my Quad box. It works well, but I am confident that Quad will produce something better with great quality. When that time comes I will probably sell both my Outlook and Pup.

I have a problem with mine also, seems to be working fine, then you come to a stop and the truck seems to search for idle. if you do not tap gas pedal it will stall. if I run it on the 100 setting it does it more often. it does not do it all the time which drives me crazy.

took box off to go back to dealer runs fine. I will reinstall today to see if it acts up again. never throws a code. just idles like it is searching for something. I turn truck off then go to use it later in the day and its not doing it anymore

My Quad box wires keep comming loose. I just get out push hard and move them and it is all better. (no cruze promblems and I only get an eng light and runs bad or dies) I am going to buy a can of tie raps and hold it all together and see if that keeps the wires from comming loose. Love the box and I just put on water/meth injection (coolingmist)
