A very surprising result that is worth notingk

My background is I am a retired Manufacturing Coordinator from Exxon Chemical and I have over 20 years experience with centrifugal compressors and other related process equipment. I am familiar with methods of how to make them last longer and run at their highest efficiency to maximize production. So the other day on my quest to find goodies for my new 03 H. O 6 speed, I ran across a fella in Pasco WA. on the internet that owns Diesel Power Products. Dave Meheen and I speak the same language when it comes to centrifugal compressor efficiency enhancment. I have been aquianted with vortex breakers that straighten the spinning air prior to entering the center intake of a centrifugal compressor. There is an enhanced effeciency benifit to performance and out put if this tecnology is applied correctly. Dave provided one of his Turbo Air Guide units at my request to see if it really does the same type of improvements for the Turbo charger which is, as we all know, is a centrifugal compressor. The difference on my stock truck was a REAL KICK IN THE PANTS! :--) Man this was more than noticeable it was fun. The spool up was dramatically improved and the truck ran with the responce and kick of a high performance gasoline big block but pulled with bigggg torque in 5th and 6th. I went hot rodding, this was "fun", and I am wondering? If I really need a fueling box. Especially after I get the exhaust reworked and an Afe on this thing. REALLY! I can't beleive that the engineers of the major manufacturers haven't tryed this or did Dave just beat them to the punch. Billy & Jackie Adams. Oo.

Good to hear you have some noticeable results using the Turbo Air Guide (TAG). The one your are trying is a new design for us and I haven't even had time to get a picture of it on our website yet. Please keep us posted with EGT, boost pressures and mileage changes using the TAG and if possible a dyno run to find out how much the kick in pants actually is.

The new design keeps the stock silencer ring in place and the stainless steel honeycomb material is placed just in front of the silencer ring. This allows for the air passing through the slot behind the silencer ring to be directed toward the main intake area of the turbo and combine with the laminar air from the TAG. The turbo spools quicker due to a reduction is drag from turbulent air entering the compressor wheel.

We hope to soon have more information about the TAGs performance and further develop the mounting of the TAG. Currently the TAG is still experimental, but we are making test units available on a limited basis.

C_n57, I do a lot of towing 5er's all over US, would be glad to try one for you(and me). Have 70K on the 03 already.

I have two 2003's Which one do you want to test it on? The red one has 5", Boxes, Airfliter, and DD is about 20 minutes from my mom's house[/IMG]#ad
:D

At first I thought somebody found a bees nest in the compressor housing or someone tried to see how many cigarette's he could fit in the housing.

Very interesting

I had to get in on this post. This TAG sounds very interesting. Not sure if my small brain has totally figured it out but would like to learn more about this technology/application. Please keep us posted on towing/dyno results ... ... ... ... . I am very interested.

Thanks ,

Need a tester?

I do a lot of daily driving (in town). If you need a tester under these type of conditions, let me know. Thx Stuart

Car Nut, do you have an upgrade price? I bought mine 3 weeks ago, but this new unit looks like a much better "fit" and looks like it would be much more effective.

Desert tester??

Car_nut, need a tester in the desert southwest? If so, i'm your man, have some miles in store the next couple of weeks!:)

dyno tested april 12 in meridian idaho

I would be willing to use my bone stock 03 HO as a test bed. There are several places in the Dallas/FT Worth area to do Dyno tests. Oo.

No problem at all give me a call or just send me back the old style and I will be happy to send you the new one. Keep in mind you will need to reinstall your silencer ring in the factory position to use the new TAG.

So the tag cost you power if i'm reading this right or did you maybe mix up your results by chance??
The TAG testing done on the 98. 5-02 trucks using the small honeycomb and silencer ring installed backwards really did not yield any significant results performance wise, ie:hp and torque. Mostly what we saw from those trucks was a little smoother running and quieting of turbo noise. As opposed to the results seen from the Ford using the TAG which have been very good as indicated by the dyno runs on our site. However even the results from the Ford varies with how they are configured for example we see the best gains from the TAG in stock trucks and trucks using Banks power packages. We also see gains with the programmers and other chips, but generally not as much.

So now, we have a different configuration of the TAG to test on the Cummins which has the potential to yield better turbo efficiency and engine performance. We have only gotten this new TAG installed on 2 trucks so far with only a couple of days run time so it is too early to reach any conclusions yet, but initial reports are very good. Would this new TAG yield better results on the 98. 5-2002 truck, I don't know at this time.

So far the two guys that are running the new TAG one of which started this thread are both nearly stock trucks with high output engines and 6-speed transmissions. The one who has been testing the longest for us reports that the TAG has several positive effects, much quicker turbo response, lowered boost pressures several psi at highway cruising, makes the truck run smoother and moved the 2,100rpm vibration/drone up to about 2,600rpm. He also reported better pulling power when loaded and a slight increase in mileage. Hopefully soon we will be getting more feed back from others trying the TAG and some dyno information rather than just seat of the pants.

Dave, I'm still planning to come by in regards to what we discussed, just haven't had a moment to swing by yet! Too bad there's not a readily available dyno around here.
